Church art, protected birdlife, a view across Slidrefjord and an e-bike loop offer different reasons to visit Lomen. Experiences range from Lomen kyrkje and nature watching in Lomendelta to a ride with a specified route length. This lets you decide whether culture, birdlife, views or activity should take centre stage during your stay.

Church art at Lomen kyrkje

Lomen kyrkje was consecrated in 1914. Its altarpiece consists of three stained-glass windows by Emanuel Vigeland. These three works give the church a distinct cultural focus and offer a point of interest for travellers interested in church art. Located between the E16 and Slidrefjord, Lomen kyrkje is clearly visible from the rest area at Kvåle.

Two different aspects come together here: the altarpiece draws attention to a particular work of art, while the church’s location creates a striking connection with its surroundings. If you would like to include culture in your trip, you can experience Lomen through the church’s art and history as well—not just through outdoor activities.

Birdlife and views

Lomendelta is a protected bird sanctuary. Its birdlife is most diverse during the spring and autumn migrations. These two migration periods are therefore useful reference points if you are planning to watch nature. Lomen kraftstasjon gives you a good overview of the outer parts of the delta, which you can scan with a telescope. After turning off the E16, Lomen kraftstasjon is about 200 metres west of Lomen Auto.

Lomisberget offers a different view: from there, you can look out over Slidrefjord. To get there, drive about 2 km along Ellestadvegen from the E16; after parking, a further 1.5 km along a tractor road leads to the destination. Consider these two stretches separately when planning: in addition to the drive, the walk from the car park is part of the outing. This makes it easier to fit the viewpoint into your day plan using the specific route details.

An e-bike loop as an active option

The Slidrefjorden østside e-bike loop runs 32 km from Lomen via Fagernes and has 220 metres of elevation gain. Lomen stavkirke or Slidre idrettsplass are options for parking for the loop. The distance and elevation gain give you specific details to help fit this ride into your day plan. It differs in format from the outing to Lomisberget: this is a designated loop, while that is a destination reached by driving and then following a tractor road.
