Søndre Land combines marked routes and winter ski trails with distinctive cultural sites. At the Fallselva Cultural Trail, waterfalls, pools and dams tell the story of the landscape along the river; you can experience the section on the Valdresbanen by railbike. Fallselva: River Landscape and Cultural Trail
The Fallselva Cultural Trail runs mostly along the river, from the dam at Trevatna to its mouth at the Randsfjorden near the former Holmen Mølle. The winding river is about five kilometres long and features waterfalls, pools and dams. The elevation difference between the endpoints is 244 metres. The trail is also the Millennium Site of Søndre Land municipality—a place where nature and local history come together along a specific stretch.
Those interested in churches and cultural heritage will find another destination at Fluberg Church: it was consecrated in 1703 and is the oldest of the five churches in Søndre Land. As a listed heritage church, it offers a glimpse into the municipality’s historic architecture. In Hov, Land kunstforening runs the Galleri Grette and Fjøsgalleriet galleries at Grette Gård. You can choose between a river landscape, a historic church building and galleries.
Cycling and Outdoor Trails
Trevatn rundt is a marked cycling route approximately 20 kilometres long. Søndre Land also has a network of trails in its outlying areas. These include marked and unmarked trails as well as old transport routes, so you can choose between different types of routes when heading out.
Aksjon turmål is an annual hiking initiative throughout the municipality. Hiking maps in a handy 10 × 20 centimetre format are produced by Søndre Land municipality and the volunteer centre; they are also available digitally through UT.no. For planning, you can treat the hiking options and cycling route as separate alternatives rather than combining them into a single tour.
Cross-Country Skiing in Several Locations
The Bergegarda ski area has machine-groomed trails of 0.6, 2 and 3 kilometres, as well as a loop of just over 20 kilometres around Landåsbygda. The 2-kilometre trail is lit. The options include both shorter trails and a considerably longer loop; which one suits your plans depends on the distance you are looking for.
Scheeskroken has lit trails of 1 and 2 kilometres, a ski play area with a barbecue shelter, and a connection to the rest of the trail network at Øståsen. The area is 3.5 kilometres above the centre of Hov on Skjølaasvegen. Another lit trail runs for approximately 5 kilometres from Trevatn Velpark at the eastern end of Trevatn to the Solvoll sports ground.
Golf at Randsfjorden
Randsfjorden Golfpark is also among the municipality’s leisure activities. It is located by the Randsfjorden and is officially an 18-hole course with a par of 70. However, only 12 physical holes with 18 tee positions are currently played to complete an 18-hole round. Single and tandem railbikes are available for rides on the Valdresbanen. They are suitable for families, groups of friends, individuals and businesses. The route runs between Dokka in Nordre Land and Hov in Søndre Land; the full route from Dokka to Hov is 24 kilometres long.
