Beitostølen combines a summer family adventure park with a wide range of winter sports and cultural experiences. Beitostølen Summer Park is centrally located in the heart of the village. With fun and fast-paced activities for all ages, it is a destination for shared holiday experiences throughout the summer and into autumn. In winter, cross-country ski trails, the ski area and events shape the scene: which side of Beitostølen you want to experience may also influence your choice of holiday apartment.

Summer activities and getting your bearings in the village

Beitostølen Ski Stadium is open throughout the summer and autumn, except when closed events are being held there. This makes it another place to visit in the warmer months, alongside the summer park. If you want to include a range of interests in your trip, you can combine the village’s seasonal activities with the cultural events at Liastølen.

Since 2002, the summer weekend programme at Liastølen has included talks and lectures on traditional summer-farm life, folk costume traditions and birdlife. There are also demonstrations of old craft techniques, as well as concerts featuring singing and folk music. The old Liasælet in the centre of Beitostølen tells another part of the village’s story through its architecture: it was built in the 18th century from pine felled in Beitostølen. Liasælet and Liastølen offer different cultural insights—the former into historic wooden construction, the latter through a summer programme of learning, crafts and music.

Cross-country trails, ski stadium and downhill runs

Starting from Beitostølen, you can access a network of more than 300 km of groomed cross-country ski trails with varying levels of difficulty. This provides a wide choice of trail profiles, without any one difficulty level applying to the entire network. The ski stadium also plays a special role in winter: thanks to a snow storage project, it is often among the first facilities to have groomed ski slopes. Annual events such as the Beitosprinten are also held there.

Those looking for more challenging skiing can find it at the Raudalen Ski Centre. It also offers popular off-piste runs when the powder snow alert is issued. Snow rafting offers something different: you ride an inflatable boat down a 450-metre-long, snow-covered slope. On selected days during the season, the activity can be booked online through Beitostølen Aktiv & Skiskole. The options range from groomed trails and challenging skiing to a single, fast-paced descent in an inflatable boat.

Lessons, equipment and cycling routes

Beitostølen Ski School offers private and group lessons for children and adults. Lessons are available in alpine skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing, cross-country skiing and sit-skiing. Beitostølen Rental hires out equipment for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, touring and backcountry skiing, randonnée and snowboarding at the Welcome Centre. When looking for a holiday apartment, you could consider whether you are visiting Beitostølen mainly for cross-country skiing, downhill runs or lessons; these interests lead to different priorities when planning your days.

Mountain biking is another option: Beitostølen Trail Arena offers free trails accessible from the upper ski-lift station or the car park at Gardli. The digital map for Beitostølen shows your current location to help you find your way on hiking trails and cycling routes. You can get a printed hiking map from the tourist office, sports shops and hotels.

Getting here and choosing a focus for your holiday

Beitostølen is accessible by bus, including the Valdres Ekspressen from Oslo and the Øst-Vest Ekspressen from Bergen. The ski area is centrally located in the village, with restaurants, a ski rental shop and other facilities just a few minutes’ walk away. If these are important to your stay, the location of the ski area may be a useful point of reference when choosing a holiday apartment. The summer cultural weekend programme, cross-country trails and ski stadium offer different experiences from the cycling routes or Raudalen.
