Øyer can be explored in many different ways: on easy walks, challenging hiking trails, with views of the surrounding landscapes or through the history of the local wooden church. The routes differ not only in length, but also in markings and terrain. You can choose your outings according to the kind of day you have in mind.

Easy walks and a rest area

Aronsvestranda is an easy walk of about 3.1 kilometres, taking approximately 45 minutes from the centre of Øyer. The walk to Storkjølla also starts in the centre: it is easy, about 3.9 kilometres long and takes approximately 45 minutes. The route to Storkjølla passes through the forest by Storkjølla, which is considered a large water source.

The Aronsvestranda route also has a section designed according to the principles of Universal Design, ending at a place to rest. This description applies to the specially designed section. When choosing your outings, you can distinguish it from the stated length and walking time for the walk.

Challenging routes and views

The Brånån hiking trail starts in Øyer at Haugalykkja on the west bank of the Lågen River. It is challenging, five kilometres long, marked in blue and signposted according to the national standard. The Brånån viewpoint is 668 metres above sea level and offers a view of Øyerfjellet.

Haugakampen also has a challenging hiking trail: it is about 2.8 kilometres long and starts at Haugalykkja in Øyer. Haugakampen itself is 498 metres above sea level and offers views of Hafjell and Sørbygden. Another type of route is the circuit around Haugen. It is about four kilometres long, passes through varied terrain and takes approximately an hour and a half. The details on length, terrain and duration help distinguish this circuit from the challenging trails.

A toboggan run for another kind of experience

Korsbakken is a two-kilometre-long toboggan run in Øyer. It starts at Korsbakkenkrysset and ends at Midtbygdsvegen. If you would like to include walks, hikes and tobogganing in your travel plans, consider Øyer as a holiday destination.

Wooden church and local history

Øyer Church is a wooden church built in 1725. It was consecrated on 2 July 1725 and given the name “Den Hellige Treenighets Tempel” (Temple of the Holy Trinity). Inside the church, the woodcarvings are traditionally attributed to Bjørn Olstad, who was considered their master. Its construction, consecration and traditional attribution are different facets of its history.

Lilletorvet is also part of local history: this has long been the name of an old meeting place in the settlement. Today, the sawmill stands on the site. If you are interested in Øyer, you can look beyond its trails and landscapes to its historic names and the development of a place. When choosing a holiday rental, you can consider whether you would like to focus mainly on walks and hiking trails, or also include cultural history in your travel plans.

You can also visit Tretten as another local destination.
