Skutvik offers several distinct reasons to explore the area: the Stella Maris sculpture near the ferry terminal, hikes to a variety of destinations, and a guided RIB trip. The hikes also offer different experiences. A short, easy walk leads to Mellomnakkan; others take you to the Olebu cabin at Kvanndalsvatnet or the shelter in Rørvikmarka. During your stay, you can consider whether you would prefer a manageable hike with harbor views, trails heading towards the lake and valley, or a trip on the water. These experiences give you a concrete basis for considering Skutvik as a holiday destination for your trip.

Stella Maris near the ferry terminal

The Stella Maris sculpture is located about 200 metres northwest of the ferry terminal in Skutvik. It consists of star-shaped elements made of marble, steel and aluminium, a violin neck made of granite, and a drinking vessel made of steel. The shapes and materials come together in a single work: alongside the stars, there is an instrument part and a vessel. Stella Maris thus adds a cultural highlight to the hikes and excursions you can enjoy in Skutvik. If you are interested in sculptures and their design, you can add this part of town to your travel plans.

Hikes to a variety of destinations

A short, easy hike leads to Mellomnakkan. From there, you can enjoy views of the lower part of Skutvik and its harbor areas. The destination combines a manageable walk with views of the town and harbor. If you would prefer a lake and a cabin as your hiking destination, you can choose the route from Skutvik to Olebu: it passes through Utaker and leads to the cabin at Kvanndalsvatnet.

You can extend the hike beyond the cabin. The trail then follows the north shore of Kvanndalsvatnet, passes through Kverna and returns to Skutvik through Kvanndalen. This gives you a choice of both the easy hike to Mellomnakkan and the hike to the cabin, with its described extension. The destinations and routes are clearly different; you can choose according to what you are looking for without treating the hikes as interchangeable.

Another hike leads to the shelter in Rørvikmarka. It starts in the centre of Skutvik, heads west through Rørvika and follows the old trail to Utaker. Along the way, you can enjoy views of the Vestfjord and Salen. The route thus combines a trail through Rørvika with the destination in Rørvikmarka and the views mentioned above. When choosing, the main consideration is whether you would like to include these landscape views in your hiking plans.

On the water and by ferry

You can also experience the area from the water: the local RIB company Vestfjord Explorer offers a guided trip to the edge of a fish farm near Skutvik. The trip heads specifically to this location; it is a different way to spend your time than hiking to a viewpoint, cabin or shelter.

The Svolvær–Skutvik–Skrova route is relevant if you are travelling by ferry. Torghatten operates this route in summer. It is free for all passengers and vehicles. If you would like to include Skutvik in a trip along this ferry route, note that this fare information applies to the entire route.
