Bindalseidet offers a variety of ways to experience the surrounding area: a cultural trail with Iron Age monuments, scenic destinations, and a range of hiking and skiing options. Gundagammen is a family-friendly destination for an outing; from there, you can enjoy views across Bindalseidet and the fjord. The experiences you want to focus on may also shape your choice of holiday apartment or holiday home for your stay.

Cultural Trail and Viewpoints

The Kjærlighetsstien cultural trail passes through Vikestadbrekkå and includes cultural monuments from the Iron Age. At Brekkå on Kjærlighetsstien, there is a barbecue shelter, a barbecue area and a toilet. This spot combines cultural history with practical facilities for a break along the trail.

Gundagammen, also called Grønnbenken, is a Telltur and geolocation destination on the route from Bindalseidet to Heilhornet. The views across Bindalseidet and the fjord make it a destination in its own right. If you are interested in this route, you can also take note of the differing descriptions of the Heilhornet routes: one route from Fellesbeit to Gundagammen starts on a good, steadily ascending path; part of the way is paved.

Hiking on Heilhornet and to the Lakes

A hiking route to Heilhornet starts at Vikestad fellesbeite in Bindalseidet. The ascent to Heilhornet from Wickestad is listed as 6.5 kilometres. A seven-kilometre round trip is described for P-fjellet. These specific route distances can help you fit the outings into your day’s plans without treating the different starting points as the same.

The route to Øvre Markavatnet leads from Skogset along a tractor road through easy terrain. There are a few boggy sections and some uphill stretches along the way. Its surface and terrain therefore differ from those described for the Heilhornet routes. Vassfjellet in Bindalseidet can be reached from Bøkestadvatnet or from Nygårdsveien; the route is still to be marked on the map.

Ski Tracks and Equipment

For a short loop, there is a groomed, 500-metre ski trail at the football pitch in Bindalseidet. Storenget ski stadium is 2.3 kilometres long and complete; it is intended to be maintained regularly. If you are looking for a different type of route, a ski track to P-fjellet runs across the lake, forms a loop on P-fjellmyra and then returns along the same route.

There is parking for the P-fjellet route at the floodlit ski trail. The groomed ski track follows a tractor road to Øvre Markavatnet. A small branch of Bindal’s equipment centre is located by the daycare centre in Bindalseidet. Ski equipment, SUP boards and life jackets can be borrowed there.

Water and Getting Around

Near Bindalseidet, at Bøkestadvannet, there is a wheelchair-accessible swimming area with a barbecue area, toilets, benches and a diving tower. The path leading directly to the water at Bøkestadvatnet is universally designed. These two options offer another focus alongside hiking and ski tracks.

You can also take travel connections into account when choosing a location: bus routes 18-116 and 18-114 pass through Bindalseidet. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can base your decision on the outings that matter for your trip, such as the cultural trail, Heilhornet routes or skiing options.
