Tingvoll – Kayaking, Fjord Church and Museum Farm
Accommodation in Tingvoll
Tingvoll can be explored through a variety of themes: kayaking activities, a church by the fjord, and a museum farm with buildings from rural life. This allows you to shape your travel plans around activities on the water, architectural history, and culture.
Paddling and events
Kajakkompaniet offers paddling courses and guided kayak tours in Tingvoll. The boathouse on Prestegardsvegen is the starting point for the courses. On Thursdays, Kajakkompaniet also runs a paddling tour starting from its base in Tingvoll. Participants must have completed a basic course. The day of the week and participation requirements may change, so check the latest information before making plans.
Tingvoll Økopark also has its own distinctive events programme: events are regularly held with researchers, educators, and voices from the arts and culture. Topics range from people and nature to sustainability and food production, as well as the transition to a circular society. As the programme may change, it is worth checking the dates if you would like to plan a visit around an event.
Church by the fjord and museum farm
Tingvoll kirke is idyllically situated by the fjord. It was built in the second half of the 12th century and completed around 1200. One unusual architectural feature can be found in its walls: from the gallery above the chancel, a staircase in the wall led to narrow passages within the church walls, allowing people to walk around the entire church.
Tingvoll Museum is an authentic farmstead above Tingvollvågen. Its buildings and areas include a mill, a sawmill, a blacksmith’s workshop, a large farmhouse, and a crofter’s cottage. “Bugges Minde” also houses a schoolroom, a country store, and a community hall. The variety of rooms and buildings gives the museum complex a different focus from the church’s medieval architecture.
