Straumgjerde offers several reasons to spend your holiday outdoors and exploring local attractions: the short salmon river Straumen connects Fetvatnet with the Sykkylvsfjord, there are fishing opportunities on the lake and river, and the village has a playground and a micro-distillery. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider which of these aspects of the area you would like to shape your trip most.

Fetvatnet and Straumen: two fishing opportunities

Straumen flows from Fetvatnet into the Sykkylvsfjord and is part of the Fetvassdraget watercourse. At only a few hundred metres long, it is a short river; at the same time, it is considered a good salmon river. If you are interested in the waterways, there are places to sit at the Straumen viewpoint. The viewpoint is by the salmon river on the route towards Fetvatnet.

At Fetvatnet, you can fish for salmon and trout from a boat or from the shore. Different conditions apply at Straumen: the lower fishing area in Straumgjerde is reserved for fly-fishers. This distinction is useful when planning your trip if you would rather spend your time at the lake or specifically want to fly-fish. There are also simple shelters along hiking trails at Fetvatnet. This brings waterways and trails into the same holiday plan, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one kind of stay.

Play, exercise and time outdoors

Straumgjerdeparken is by the bridge and the salmon river Straumen. It is a play park for children and adults, bringing together several different amenities in one place: a playground, outdoor fitness equipment, a sand volleyball court and a barbecue. Families can tailor their visit to their interests, while adults can also make use of the park’s exercise facilities.

Another activity is available at the disc golf practice course at Slettegjerde Stadium, which has six baskets. You can also park at the disc golf location at Slettegjerde and walk around Lake Fetvatnet. If you enjoy alternating between a sporting activity and a walk during your stay, you can include these options in your day’s plans. Trollskogen at Slettegjerde has barbecue huts, adding another named place to take a break outdoors alongside the barbecue facilities at Straumgjerdeparken.

Distillery and flavours from Straumgjerde

Brennevinsgrova is a micro-distillery in Straumgjerde. It makes gin, aquavit and whisky, and offers tours and tastings of its own products. Alongside the waterways and outdoor activities, spirit production is another distinctive feature of the area. If you are interested in local products, you can take this into account when planning your holiday.

Brennevinsgrova’s production also includes the farm salami mør. Its recipe has been passed down for four generations. Brennevinsgrova also strives to use as many local ingredients as possible, including rowanberries, birch leaves, nettles, juniper berries, blueberries, seaweed, chervil, rhubarb and bog myrtle. The wide selection shows the variety of ingredients that play a role in this local context; the salami’s handed-down recipe is a separate culinary detail.
