Discover Vebenstad
Accommodation in Vebenstad
In Vebenstad, a marked trail to Ristuva meets tangible traces of school history and prehistory. Nearby, you’ll also find rock carvings and the public outdoor recreation area of Omfarøya. You can shape your stay around the landscape, culture, or a combination of both.
Ristuva, views and transport links
The marked trail to Mount Ristuva leads from Vebenstad in Bådalen towards Kvernes. Ristuva lies between Vebenstad and Kvernes. From the summit, the view stretches across outer Nordmøre and towards Krifast. If you’re interested in a marked trail with summit views, this is a distinctive focus for your stay.
There is a bus stop at the starting point of the Ristuva trail, with good connections to both towns. County Road Fv. 6084 runs from Vebenstad via Fv. 64 to Nedal. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can take these transport links into account alongside the attractions and the day trips you have in mind.
School history and older traces
The 2019–2030 cultural plan locates the Averøy school museum in the old school building in Vebenstad. The house was built around 1910; its interior remains unchanged and features period furnishings and fittings. The building thus represents an authentic school museum and offers a different focus from the trail to Ristuva.
The nine automatically protected burial mounds at three sites are located in Vebenstad. They date from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. Nearby is also Bogestelle, a stone ring at the northern tip of Vebenstadkollen, believed to have been a hiding place for shooting arrows and bows. A kayak route includes a detour to Søbstadklubben. There, 17 rock carvings known as hunting scenes depict whales, boats and birds.
Omfarøya as a nearby destination for a day out
From Vebenstad, a signposted turn-off leads to the nearby Omfarøya outdoor recreation area in the Bådalen area. The public area is one of Averøy municipality’s seven state-secured outdoor recreation areas. Public parking is available for visitors; on site, you’ll find a short walking trail, paths and benches. The spacious toilet is open in summer and maintained by the local health association. Omfarøya is therefore different from the summit destination of Ristuva: here, the focus is on paths and places to spend time outdoors.
Averøy as the wider setting
Beyond Vebenstad, the wider destination of Averøy offers further experiences centred on landscape and culture. Visitors can fish from Myrbærholmbrua. The Svevestien trail loops around Eldhusøya, one of the islands spanned by the Atlantic Ocean Road; the trail offers views of the road and the sea beyond. The Atlantic Ocean Road connects Averøy to the mainland via seven bridges crossing a series of small islands.
Kvernes is home to Norway’s only stave church built after the Middle Ages. Its interior includes acanthus paintings and a model of the 32-gun frigate Nordstjernen. Kvernes is also a stop on the Kystpilgrimleden route from Stavanger to Nidaros. In the Kvernes cultural area, developed paths with historical information cover more than 4,000 years of history in about an hour. Four or five summer concerts are held annually at Kvernes Church; check the current programme for your year of travel.
Choosing the right location for your trip
When choosing a holiday apartment, it helps to start with the day trips you have in mind. Those focusing especially on the Ristuva trail, the summit views and the historical traces in and near Vebenstad will have different priorities from those who also want to include Kvernes and other landscape experiences in Averøy. Vebenstad offers a convenient base for the marked trail and local culture; the wider Averøy area adds further trails, fishing opportunities and historical sites. Search for a holiday apartment based on the experiences that matter most for your trip.
