Eidslandet at the end of Eidsfjord
Accommodation in Eidslandet
At the inner end of Eidsfjord, Eidslandet lies between Eksingedalen and Stamnes. The fjord, river and mountain trails offer different ways to spend your time. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore helpful to consider which experiences interest you most: a marked trail to a mountain farm, a summit hike or seasonal activities on the water.
By Eidsfjord and the Ekso
The Ekso is a salmon river that flows into Eidsfjord at Eidsland. In some winters, the fjord offers a special opportunity: when it freezes over, you can go ice skating or ice fishing there. Both activities depend on whether the fjord actually freezes over that winter. The water-based experiences therefore vary considerably with the season.
Eidsland Church
A distinctive building in the village is Eidsland Church: a wooden long church with a three-storey tower on its west side. It stands on a small peninsula south of Eidslandet, just before the end of Eidsfjord. Its architecture and location make the church a destination in its own right, in addition to the trails into the mountain landscape.
Hikes with different focuses
A marked trail leads from Eidsland to Leiro, a mountain farm with no road access, in about 40 minutes. Leiro lies by Leirovatnet, with Mysterstølen nearby. From Leiro, you can continue hiking into Steinsedalen. On the west side of Eidsland, another trail also passes Mysterelva and Leirovatnet before continuing into Steinsedalen. Trail markings and conditions can change, so it is worth checking before setting out.
Several marked trails to mountain farms and mountain summits begin north of Eidsland, along the road towards Eksingedalen. They are suitable for day hikes starting from the road. There are different options for summit hikes: Eidsnova is considered more accessible, while Grånova and Snjofannefjellet are more challenging destinations. Conditions at all the summits depend on the season and weather.
Small-game hunting is another use of the mountain areas around Eidsland. If you are planning a hike there, confirm current access and the hunting season locally. This is a different way of using the mountain areas and may be relevant when planning your days.
Swimming spots, roads and choosing a location
There are several swimming spots along the road from Eidsland towards Eksingedalen, including at the end of the route just before the Modal Tunnel. Swimming conditions vary by season. If swimming is important to your trip, take the time of year into account when planning.
Eidslandet is reached via the county road, which passes Stamnes and continues to the end of Eidsfjord. Eidslandet is about seven kilometres from the junction by the tunnel. Check local road conditions before driving. This will help you choose a holiday apartment based on which of the options described interests you most.
