Løten
Accommodation in Løten
Løten combines a strong culinary heritage with colourful Munch references in the centre and forest trails close to town. If you are looking for a holiday destination with food, culture and time outdoors, you will find a range of ideas here: from the festival in the centre to a short hiking route and opportunities for cycling tours.
Local produce and culinary heritage
Pultost- og Akevittdagene takes place throughout the centre of Løten from 4 to 6 September. Stalls are set up along Stasjonsvegen and Meierivegen. The festival includes a farmers’ market with nearly 100 exhibitors selling locally produced food and handicrafts. The focus is on short supply chains and traditional products—an opportunity to discover local produce and crafts.
The programme also includes tastings, talks and exhibitions at Akevittens Hus and Pultostens Hus. The festival celebrates Løten’s culinary heritage and community. The festival is a highlight in its own right when planning your trip; the dates given are 4 to 6 September.
Munch connections in the centre
The history of the centre is closely linked to the railway station: after the new station was completed in 1862, the town centre developed around it. The station building at Stasjonsvegen 16 dates from that year and is protected for preservation. Seven buildings in the centre have already been painted in Munch colours, and more are planned. The municipality funded the colour scheme based on Munch’s palette to bring life to the centre for visitors and residents.
Public art also draws on the connection to Munch. In the centre is a graffiti work inspired by Munch by street artist Martin Whatson, featuring an empty gold frame. The Munch playground is home to an Alma Mater statue inspired by Edvard Munch’s nanny. The connection to the artist is therefore visible in buildings and individual works, not just in stories about the town’s history.
Forest trails and cycling routes
Tårnskogen is right by the centre and offers woodland close to town, with plenty of opportunities to explore a route of your own. A set route is the 2.4-kilometre Sentrumsrunden hiking trail, which starts at Løtenhallen. In the municipality, Løtenrunden offers six separate loops of varying lengths. So, alongside a route with a named starting point, there are several loops to choose from, with distances that vary.
For exploring by bike, five electric bikes are available for hire at Løten railway station. Pick-up and drop-off are at the station, with the bus stop right next door. These details may be relevant when choosing accommodation in Løten if you want to combine your trip with cycling or local walking trails.
More experiences around Løten
“Sommer i sentrum” offers activities and entertainment for the whole family in the centre of Løten on four Saturdays during the summer. The first Saturday includes, among other things, a plant market organised by Løten hagelag, a parade by Løten turn and a concert at Godshuset. If you are interested in events like these, you can consider the dates as a reason in their own right to plan a stay.
Nearby, the medieval stone Løten kirke, dating from the 12th century, stands on a hill in the landscape. The surrounding area is also home to Løiten Brænderi, an externally intact factory complex with many authentic architectural details. These places complement the impressions of the centre with religious and industrial architecture. You can also explore Ådalsbruk.
