Hellvik – Coastal Path, bay and Hellviktangen
Accommodation in Hellvik
Hellvik combines trails along the Bunnefjord with protected natural areas and the excursion destination of Hellviktangen. Coastal Path Route 655 is 6.4 km long and leads to Hellvik and Hellviktangen. There is also a sheltered bay with a bathing beach and an art café. This gives you a chance to weigh up whether walks, nature and a visit to the water are especially important to you during your stay.
The bay and its plant life
Hellvik Bay is a sheltered bay with a breakwater, smooth rocks and a lovely bathing beach. It lies approximately 1.3 km beyond Berger brygge along the route. If you enjoy spending time by the water, you will find a specific place to visit here; the rocks and breakwater also give the bay its own character.
Another natural feature is the Hellvik gamle brygge plant protection area. It protects the rare plant species hvitmure and its habitat, and covers approximately 1.2 decares of land. Camping and pitching tents are prohibited in the protected area. If you explore the surroundings, please observe this restriction within this specific area.
Exploring Hellvik on foot
The Coastal Path runs along the east side of Nesoddlandet beside the Bunnefjord, between Blylaget and Nesoddtangen, and passes through Hellvik. This lets you consider Hellvik as part of a longer route, rather than planning it only as a standalone excursion. One route to Hellvik leads into residential areas and follows Hellvikalleen to the northern end of Hellviktangen. The two route descriptions offer different guidance: one places Hellvik along the Coastal Path, while the other mentions residential areas and a specific street.
The walk along the Coastal Path to Hellviktangen takes approximately 45 minutes. This estimate can help with your day planning; the 6.4 km length of Coastal Path Route 655 is another useful reference as you make your choice. If you are choosing a holiday apartment based on the walks you have planned, Hellvik is a place where you can readily take the routes and destinations into account in advance.
Hellviktangen: farm, villa and art café
Hellviktangen is an old farm at the northern tip of Hellvikodden. As an Art Nouveau villa, Hellviktangen sits by the water in a recreational area with a park, its own landing stage and a bathing beach. These different features make the place more than a destination for a quick visit to the beach: historical identity, architecture and a landscaped recreational area come together here.
Hellviktangen is also a popular excursion destination with an art café, concerts and a bathing beach. The café serves lunch and dinner, as well as cake and coffee. About 80 percent of the ingredients are organic; the food is prepared from scratch in the café’s own kitchen. These details give you a specific idea of the dining options, without requiring you to plan your stay solely around the café or beach. In 1857, a ship first called at Hellvik brygge: the paddle steamer Dragen, operated by Christiania og Omegn Dampskibsselskap.
