Arnemuiden was founded at its present location in 1462; in 1574, Prince William of Orange granted the town city rights. Maritime heritage and water sports

The C.A. Meerman shipyard is still in operation and also serves a museum function dedicated to preserving, maintaining and exhibiting historic maritime heritage. Visitors can see historic tools, machinery and shipbuilding equipment there, as well as restoration work and traditional techniques. The shipyard is approximately a five-minute walk from Arnemuiden railway station.

The company’s marina is located on the Kanaal door Walcheren, which connects Lake Veere with the Western Scheldt.
