Church and Living History

The parish of the village was founded before 1196. The church organ also tells the story of a long musical tradition: it was put into operation on 27 October 1872 and built by the Société Anonyme des Grandes Orgues in Brussels. Following restoration in 2012, it remains fully in its original condition.

The church tower also has an unusual detail. It was probably built before 1350 and subsided on its western side because it was constructed at the very edge of a geest ridge. The former rectory of the Dutch Reformed Church at Kerkring 3 complements this historical picture. It was built in 1858 with neoclassical influences. For a longer circuit, there is a 6- to 7-kilometre walking route that begins and ends at the Dorpshuis Versvliet in 's-Heer Abtskerke. The Ommetje Schrabbekercke is 3 kilometres long and leads outside the village through an old agricultural landscape and along the historic Hoeven van der Meulen farmstead. The different route lengths help you compare active and shorter excursions when planning your trip.

Farmsteads and Special Village Details

The Hoeve van der Meulen is a restored listed farmstead. The original residence has been furnished as a museum apartment and is only accessible to a limited extent. In Baarsdorp, the remains of Huis te Baarsdorp castle, a motte castle, as well as the remains of a late-medieval church with churchyard have been preserved. The Hoeve Plantlust farmstead is also connected with the Kerkring of 's-Heer Abtskerke.

Further historical highlights can be found at the former 's-Gravenpolder–'s-Heer Abtskerke tram station. It was built in 1927 in the style of interwar architecture. Next to this former tram station stands a small goods shed, which was also built in 1927 under the influence of regional building traditions. Schrabbekercke is located in the De Poel nature area and connects the agricultural landscape of the walking routes with an independent natural area.
