Woudenberg combines hiking trails through the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug with Henschoter Lake, cycle routes starting at cycling junctions, and historic sites around the Pyramide van Austerlitz. Hiking trails and forests around Woudenberg

The Oudenhorsterpad circular route starts at Partycentrum Schimmel at Stationsweg Oost 243 in Woudenberg and is 7.5 km long. As a Klompenpad, it has its own trail markers. Follow the yellow marker in the shape of a wooden clog. As a circular route, the trail returns to its starting point. The fixed starting address and marked route provide the hiking day with a clear beginning and a definite end.

Another hiking route, “Wandelen door de bossen van de Utrechtse Heuvelrug”, is 8.9 km long and leads through the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The distances of 7.5 and 8.9 km provide two different time frames for planning a hike. The Termatenpad is temporarily closed due to uncertain conditions on part of the route. In addition, hiking trails around the Pyramide van Austerlitz and on the Den Treek-Henschoten estate are currently not signposted. The information about the individual trails therefore forms part of separate planning for the hiking sections.

Estate, pyramid and historical traces

The Treeker Info Punt provides detailed information, in words and pictures, about the management, nature and culture of the estate, as well as the primeval forest. The estate’s visitor centre first opened in 2017 in a sheep barn next to Restaurant Bergzicht in Woudenberg. A 6 km themed walk starts at the Treeker Info Punt and then continues from a black wooden information hut in the Treeker car park on the Doornseweg in Woudenberg. The themed walk can be included as a separate section in a day of hiking.

The Pyramide van Austerlitz is located on the publicly accessible Den Treek-Henschoten estate. General Marmont had it built in 1804 as a tribute to Napoleon. The visitor centre at the pyramid provides information about the French period. The historical context therefore spans the period from the Napoleonic tribute to the French era.

Henschoter Lake and cycling tours

You can swim at Henschoter Lake in summer. There is also a pirate ship at Henschoter Lake during the summer. Walking and cycling at Henschoter Lake are possible all year round. When planning by season, it is important to distinguish between summer swimming and the year-round paths around the lake.

Numerous cycle routes start at cycling junctions in and around Woudenberg. A 42 km cycle route from Woudenberg leads through Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park, the Gelderse Vallei and the former Grebbelinie. A 42 km route creates a different time frame for planning a day trip than the 6 km themed walk. This gives cycling its own route framework alongside the hiking trails.
