The 284-kilometre Noord-Hollandpad hiking trail begins in De Cocksdorp. Along the route, the Eijerlands Kanaal is crossed by a hand-pulled ferry. The first stage begins north of De Cocksdorp at Vuurtorenweg and can be reached by Texelhopper public transport. Vuurtoren Texel, De Cocksdorp and the Eierlandse polder

The name De Cocksdorp derives from the Antwerp shipowner N.J. de Cock. An eleven-kilometre-long dyke was built by 1,500 workers in twenty weeks. This reclaimed part of the mudflat area, which is now known as the Eierlandse polder. At Vuurtoren Texel and in the Eierlandse polder, different landscape connections come together: the view over the North Sea, the Wadden Sea, Texel and Vlieland, as well as the history of the land reclamation. Accompanied by a museum staff member, visitors walk to the bunker opposite the museum.
