Discover Zwijndrecht: Nature, Culture and History
The 55-kilometre Drechtsteden Route begins at Lindtsedijk in Zwijndrecht and passes several natural areas in the town, including De Munnikendevel and Develbos. Develbos offers opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding. The route therefore connects the starting point at Lindtsedijk with natural areas that explicitly form part of the route within the town.
Routes and Nature
The 72-hectare De Hooge Nesse area is located in Zwijndrecht between the Oude Maas and Lindtsedijk. De Hooge Nesse has a play forest with natural play elements, a nature reserve with walking trails and a nature education centre. The area therefore brings together natural play elements, paths through the nature reserve and a centre focused on nature education.
Develbos is located along the old Devel Creek. Its shady waters are considered particularly suitable for ducks and birds. Sophiapolder is a 77-hectare tidal nature island in the middle of the tidal river De Noord and is located in the vicinity of Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht.
The Munnike Park Arboretum has around 200 tree species. These include oaks, chestnuts, beeches, birches, ornamental fruit trees and conifers. The herb garden in the Munnike Park Arboretum is open to the public. Herbs may be picked there, although the plants should remain in the ground.
