Masamuda is located in Vlaardingen, in the Vlaardingse Broekpolder. Masamuda is an educational archaeological experience site. Its location in the Broekpolder combines archaeological education with a landscape area that is home to further nature and leisure attractions.

Nature

De Ruigte is also located in the Broekpolder. De Ruigte is a core nature area with open spaces, water and diverse vegetation. This core nature area is home to a herd of Scottish Highland cattle. The Klauterwoud is also located in the Broekpolder. It offers children adventurous outdoor play in nature. The Broekpolder therefore provides an archaeological experience site, a core nature area and an outdoor play area for children.

Culture

Museum Vlaardingen tells the story of Vlaardingen's past, present and future. The museum ship VL.92 Balder is located in the centre of Vlaardingen at Westhavenkade 54. The ship is opposite Museum Vlaardingen. Guided tours are available on the museum ship VL.92 Balder.

A replica of the historic Stadskraan Vlaardingen stands at the Museumkade. It is located in front of Museum Vlaardingen. The VL.92 Balder is located at Westhavenkade 54, while the Stadskraan is at the Museumkade. This makes it possible to distinguish the two sites based on their respective stated locations.

History

Vlaardingen has three protected areas. Together, these areas form a nationally significant protected townscape of cultural and historical importance. One of the protected areas extends along the Kortedijk and Hoogstraat. It ends at the Markt by the Grote Kerk. This area includes Vlaardingen's oldest buildings.

The historic Stadskraan Vlaardingen was used for fishing from the early 17th century onwards. It was also used, among other things, by merchant ships and trekschuiten. The Visbank was built in 1778. Until 1949, the Visbank served as a fish auction hall for private individuals.

Molen Aeolus was used for milling. Molen Aeolus also served as a lookout tower. During the Second World War, Molen Aeolus was used as an anti-aircraft post. The Stadskraan refers to fishing and shipping, the Visbank to the fish trade, while Molen Aeolus was successively used as a mill, lookout tower and anti-aircraft post.

Getting Around

Expeditie Vlaardingen presents the history of the city centre. Audio, video and augmented reality are used for this purpose. The history of the centre is explored using digital and audio media.

The walking routes in Vlaardingen pass through historic streets. The routes feature murals along the way. The paths also run along the water. The walking routes provide insight into the city's history. In addition to the historic streets, artworks along the way and the water are therefore also among the stated features of the routes.

The Vlaardingen cycling route starts at Infopunt Vlaardingen. From there, it leads through the city's green areas. E-bikes for the Vlaardingen cycling route can be rented at the information point on the Westhavenkade. The route's starting point is therefore named both as Infopunt Vlaardingen and as a location for renting e-bikes.
