Songbirds such as nightingales, golden orioles, yellowhammers and redstarts breed in the hedges and avenues of De Colckhof. De Colckhof was mentioned in the 13th century as “Goed ten Kolcke” and was a spieker, or grain store, in the 18th century. Construction of the present neoclassical manor house began around 1850. De Colckhof is home to the gatekeeper’s house, Bagatelle, which was built in 1867. The Eendenhuisje stands by the pond; it was built in the half-timbered style with cement-rusticated walls.

Den Alerdinck covers 120 hectares and consists of farmland, woodland and natural areas; Huize Den Alerdinck was recognized as a Havezate around 1647. The estate includes Het Koningshuis castle, a historic coach house, several manor houses and gardens. The main building is of general significance because of its age, its classical architectural style, and its preserved exterior and surviving parts of the interior. The main house of De Colckhof is also of general significance because of its age and the characteristic architectural design of its front and rear sections, which were built in several phases.

Historic parks and distinctive buildings

The historic garden and park grounds of Den Alerdinck preserve an avenue system from the 17th and 18th centuries that remains well preserved in structure and was incorporated into a surviving landscape park in the early 19th century. Part of an old sea dike dating from around 1829 to 1830 has been preserved on the historic park grounds; the Bouwhuis originally dates from the 18th century. The Theekoepel stands on a hill in the Ronde Bos and takes the form of a graceful semicircular Doric temple with marble columns.

Walking routes of varying lengths

The three routes differ in length. The Colckhof walking route is marked with blue arrows, is 2.3 kilometres long and takes approximately one hour. The 9-kilometre Rond Den Alerdinck walk passes through De Colckhof and Den Alerdinck near Heino. The Trage Tocht Colckhof en Alerdinck is 10 kilometres long; at least 70 per cent of its route follows unpaved paths. Just outside Laag Zuthem, the IJssels rivierenlandschap route follows the Zeedijk. The different lengths and the proportion of unpaved sections can help you plan your day.

Laag Zuthem itself also has a specific monument: The Dijkstoel at Kolkweg 2 is a municipal monument. Its original function was that of a Dijkstoel; today it is used for storage. The Voerman Museum Hattem and the castles of Rechteren, Vosbergen and Hessum are also located in the surroundings of Laag Zuthem. ’t Engelse Werk, Stinspark, Salland Park and Polberg hill are in the same area.
