History and Special Village Moments

At the KulturhusTrefpunt Heeten, the Germanenkamer presents finds, 3D images, animations and film material about the Germanic people in Heeten. The exhibition is open only by prior appointment. Making an appointment is an integral part of planning a visit to the Germanenkamer. For those interested in culture, the focus therefore remains on Heeten and its Roman-Germanic past. The older history of the village also reaches far back: during the Roman-Germanic period, Heeten was home to a thriving iron industry. The annual Ponyweek provides a lively contrast to the past. It is considered Heeten's biggest village festival and includes, among other things, an agricultural day, a flea market and a pop festival. As an annual event, the Ponyweek provides a recurring date in village life.

Hiking and Cycling by the Canal

The trails of the Stichting Wandel- & Fietspaden Heeten e.o. include a hand-operated ferry across the Overijssels Kanaal. Since 2012, it has connected the Jaagpad with the Schot Beumerpad. The “Heeten Noord” hiking route is around 8 km long and leads around Heeten. For planning a day out, its approximate length provides a clear framework. Heeten Noord therefore focuses on the circular route around the village, while the ferry represents the actual canal crossing as a separate section.

The surrounding area can also be explored by bicycle from a different perspective. The “Slinger van Heeten” route runs around Heeten and Raalte in Salland (Overijssel). It follows winding semi-paved paths, through woodland and fields and along a canal; in places, the landscape is slightly hilly. The different sections give the route a changing landscape character. For the most part, the Jaagpad follows the former towpath along the canal. For the cycling tour, the surface and slightly hilly sections are therefore just as much a part of the planning as the different landscape sections. Woodland, fields and canal alternate along the route, without restricting it to just one type of surroundings. This makes it practical to divide the route into sections with different surfaces and landscape views.

Active Days and Regional Experiences

At Recreatiebedrijf de Maathoeve, additional activities complement the trails and cultural attractions. There is a 9-hole disc golf course and an outdoor escape game. In this game, you solve puzzles at different locations in order to unravel a mystery. The escape game differs from the 9-hole disc golf course through its puzzles at different locations. The offerings also include a farm picnic with a bag containing a regional lunch. With its bag, the farm picnic provides a different type of offering from the two games. Its regional lunch is a separate component alongside disc golf and the escape game.
