Holiday apartment in IJsselmuiden: history and routes by the water

IJsselmuiden combines historic churches and organ history with various cycling and hiking routes, as well as the harbour of WSV IJsselmuiden.

Churches and organ history

The Dorpskerk IJsselmuiden is the oldest building in IJsselmuiden and is also known as St. Crispin's Church. The Dorpskerk is also a single-nave church. Its Romanesque-Gothic tower is built entirely of tuff, has three storeys and a recessed spire; the lower section dates from around 1200. A Neo-Gothic transept lies between the tower and the Gothic choir, which is closed on three sides. The R.K. Kerk IJsselmuiden was built in 1919 to a design by J. Stuyt, while the R.K. Kapel in IJsselmuiden was built in 1889 to a design by the Amsterdam architect A.C. Boersma. The history of the Verhofstadt organ in IJsselmuiden began in 1885. The churches combine various architectural forms with specific years.

Architecture and studios

The O.L. Vrouwe Onbevlekt Ontvangen is part of the church architecture. It is a Neo-Romanesque hall church with three chapels on both long sides, an entrance portico and a free-standing, unarticulated tower with a gabled roof. The EEKA Ateliers are located in a former furniture factory and comprise 33 unique artists' studios where artists create their works.

Cycle routes with various loops

The “Rondje Kampereiland en Mandjeswaard” cycle route starts at the beginning of the Frieseweg in IJsselmuiden and follows the IJssel estuary. From Zwolle, it can be reached by train via the Kamperlijntje railway connection. The “Pontjesroute IJsseldelta: Kampen” starts in the centre of IJsselmuiden at junction 45 and consists of a figure-eight route with a 24-kilometre northern loop and a 28-kilometre southern loop; both loops cross at junction 45. For planning the day, the route’s 24 and 28 kilometres represent two different distances. This route is part of a series of four Pontjesroutes in the IJsseldelta.

Hiking between Kampen and IJsselmuiden

The “Mobiel en Maritiem Erfgoed Kampen” hiking route leads to locations in IJsselmuiden. From the city bridge, three directions lead to locations in Kampen and IJsselmuiden that illustrate the maritime and mobile heritage of ships, cars and trains, as well as the transport of people and goods over the centuries. The “Scherenwellepad” hiking trail runs along the edge of IJsselmuiden, following the former towpath canal connection between Kampen and Zwolle. The hiking offering combines maritime themes with historic transport routes.

WSV IJsselmuiden harbour

The WSV IJsselmuiden harbour has approximately 80 berths, some of which are available for visiting boaters. Toilets, showers, electricity and Wi-Fi are available throughout the harbour area.
