Bergentheim combines its defining canal with remembrance culture, church architecture and a variety of activities. A war memorial stands along the canal; two churches are located on Kanaalweg Oost. Memorial sites and churches along the canal

The Bergentheim war memorial commemorates thirteen resistance fighters who lost their lives during the Second World War while fighting against the occupiers. It stands at the intersection of Kanaalweg West and Stationsweg and consists of a column with an inset plaque made of white natural stone.

The churches on Kanaalweg Oost also give the village a distinctive cultural character. The Oosterkerk at Kanaalweg-Oost 59 was taken into use in March 1940. The former Reformed church at Kanaalweg Oost 58 is a hall church with decorative brickwork and a projecting entrance area.

On the move between history and landscape

The Grensland Liberation Route passes many historic sites and offers explanations there through posters and films accessible via QR codes. It also includes the 18 km cycling sub-route “Midden”, with VeurMekaar Bergentheim and Museum Klooster Sibculo. The complete cycling route follows an approximately 55 km-long route via cycling junctions. The 18 km sub-route and the approximately 55 km total route provide different frameworks for planning a day; the junctions mark the course of the longer cycling route and connect the individual sections.
