The Africa Festival Hertme is particularly distinctive: in 2024, it reached its 35th edition, after the first Afrikadag was held in 1989. The festival includes an African market with more than 100 stalls. The festival takes place at the Hertme Open-Air Theatre and offers a children's programme with face painting, puzzles, making music and dancing. Well-known artists perform at the Metropool Open Air every year. For scheduling purposes, its two weekends fall between May and September; the Africa Festival lasts two days.

The H.-Stephanuskerk also offers a historical focal point. It was built in 1902–1903 to a neo-Gothic design by the architect Wolter te Riele. Its organ was made by Maarschalkerweerd; it dates from 1904. The church also contains a 17th-century candlestick and a chalice dating from 1398. It can be entered during weekend services and on special days.

Another historic building is the Spookhuis, a rare example of a single-nave half-timbered house with a hipped roof, upper room, half cross-frame windows with shutters, old glass, a new front façade and a rear extension. The Spookhuis is a Rijksmonument and is also known by the name 't Oude Groothuijs. During its restoration, it was relocated and rebuilt stone by stone. Around 1615, it served as a clandestine Catholic church.
