Opmeer combines agricultural tradition, paths through nature and remarkable sites of remembrance. A significant annual event is the Landbouwshow Opmeer: it has been held as a full-day event on the first Monday in August for 110 years. The agricultural sector presents itself to a large audience in all its breadth. An agricultural trade fair, exhibitions, competitions, demonstrations and family activities make the day varied. Hiking and cycling around Opmeer

There are several signposted hiking trails in the village centre of Opmeer. One of them starts at the municipal building in Opmeer. You can also go for walks in the village centres and in the surrounding countryside. This allows you to combine paths through the village and the surrounding area without every outing having to be the same kind of experience.

For longer outings, the Opmeer Tulip Route is a good option. The route, which is more than 30 km long, leads through the polders of the municipalities of Opmeer and Koggenland and can only be completed on foot or by bicycle. Shorter is the 13 km circular walking route “Landschap en natuur”, which focuses entirely on nature in Opmeer. The different route lengths help you adapt your daily planning to your preferred pace. The two routes also have different focuses: the Tulip Route connects the polders of two municipalities, while the shorter loop explicitly focuses on nature in Opmeer.

Water is also one of the possible holiday experiences. Botenverhuur Opmeer rents out boats that allow you to explore the surrounding area from the water. History and special places

The Short Stirling monument in Opmeer commemorates the crew of an Allied Short Stirling bomber that crashed on 11 May 1941. The monument consists of a bomber propeller blade, a steel V-shaped frame, a plaque and a brick plinth. At Museum 't Loosje, a tour takes visitors through the 85-year history of Simon Loos.

De Wip adds to these historical impressions. The house, built around 1700, was originally a Saxon farmhouse and later served as a café. Workers involved in draining the Wieringermeer would stop there for a drink after work. In addition, the first drawbridge was built here in 1591, when an old overtoom was replaced by a lock with a drawbridge.
