Village history, churches and historic houses

Warmenhuizen originated in the 9th century on a series of dwelling mounds that grew together into an elongated ridge of mounds. This gave Dorpsstraat its L-shape, meaning that the history of the settlement remains visible in the structure of the village itself.

At Dorpsstraat 177, St. Ursulakerk is listed as a Rijksmonument. The Roman Catholic Sint Ursulakerk in Warmenhuizen dates from 1872 to 1873. The Oude Ursulakerk offers another historical feature: in 1864, Hermanus Knipscheer II built a new organ for the church, which is rented out for cultural activities such as concerts and exhibitions.

There are also tangible historical points of interest outside the churches. The Grebmolen is part of the cultural heritage as a polder mill serving the Grebpolder. The eight-sided windmill dates from 1875 and was restored in 1958. The De Moriaan inn dates from 1597 and historically served as a village inn. A building dating from 1720 was constructed by the municipality as a poorhouse with three apartments; a building from the same year is believed to be the oldest house in Warmenhuizen.

Polder landscape and cycling routes

The approximately 162-hectare Grebpolder forms a lower-lying area within the Geestmerambacht polder.

The Warmenhuizen route passes the Roman Catholic Ursulakerk on Dorpsstraat. For cycling, the Rondje Westfriese Omringdijk cycle route offers another specific connection: it starts in Warmenhuizen and leads through an open landscape with old, picturesque villages, ditches and canals, grassland and dunes.

Regional products and special events

At By Broersen, visitors can pick fruit in a pick-your-own garden and cut flowers. The farm shop sells its own strawberries and asparagus, as well as numerous regional products from Noord-Holland. This combines shopping for local produce with the immediate experience of agricultural products.

Fair de Marlequi takes place every year on the third weekend of September as a green, atmospheric market in the greenhouse. It focuses on gardens, homes and gardens, and pumpkins.
