Holiday apartment in Veldhoven: Art, nature and cultural heritage

A particularly clear connection between art and landscape can be seen along the Het Groene Lint art route. The 24-kilometre art trail connects the centres of Eersel and Eindhoven. Along its route are the three waterways Gender, Run and Dommel. In Veldhoven, the route follows the Run and combines nature and art. This also includes the artwork Mensenputten, which stands along Het Groene Lint in the open countryside by the River Run.

Culture

At Museum ’t Oude Slot, culture is combined with education: the museum is also an educational centre. Its exhibitions are often inspired by its extensive collection of popular prints. The museum is easily accessible by public transport.

Another historical monument is the Toterfout archaeological site. It includes Bronze Age burial mounds and has been protected as a Rijksmonument since 19 November 1968, meaning it is a national monument of the Netherlands. Nature

Activities

Veldhoven Zoo mainly features parrots and other parrot-like birds, as well as birds of prey, flamingos, pelicans, zebras, ring-tailed lemurs and alpacas. The grounds also include two large playgrounds. The zoo is located outside the built-up area, where public transport services run less frequently; planning your journey in advance is therefore recommended.

City Sport Veldhoven has a 25-metre pool, a multi-purpose pool measuring 20 × 10 metres and a therapy pool. The programme includes swimming and exercise classes for babies, toddlers, preschool children, children and adults.

Kinderboerderij De Hazewinkel also focuses on children and nature education: school classes are welcome and can learn about farm animals and nature. Teaching materials with worksheets are available for the butterfly garden.

History and events

The Veldhoven cultural heritage routes can be explored using QR information boards. They provide stories about local history, notable residents and special events. Another historical route is the “Tweede Wereldoorlog in herinnering” cycle route. It is 16 kilometres long and passes places in Veldhoven that commemorate pivotal events of the Second World War. CityFest adds a free weekend of music, culture and festivities that is open to everyone. CityFest takes place in Veldhoven on the last full weekend of September.
