Historic sites in Lierop and Boomen

Historical connections appear in many different forms. The Lancaster Monument in Lierop commemorates the seven crew members who lost their lives when a British bomber crashed in the village on 25 May 1944. In March 1996, the hamlet of Boomen was designated a protected village landscape and is a typical example of the development of a farm-and-field village; five farms are designated as Rijksmonumenten. The Dennenlust hiding camp was established in 1943 to provide accommodation during the Second World War for students from The Hague who were being sought by the Germans.
