Halderberge: Holiday Apartment amid Culture, Nature and Leisure

Halderberge combines religious cultural heritage, natural sites and a wide range of leisure activities in Oudenbosch. At the Basilica of Saints Agatha and Barbara, visitors can climb 144 steps to the viewing platform at the foot of the dome. The buildings, collections, landscapes and activities together create a varied picture of the municipality.

Culture

A guided city walk starting in Oudenbosch follows the cultural and religious heritage and takes 1 to 1.5 hours. In addition, the Oudenbosch Natural History and Ethnographic Museum presents collections covering nature, ethnography, geology and archaeology. Since December 2025, KunstHalderberge has been a new attraction in the centre of Oudenbosch. It features changing exhibitions, art projects, workshops and courses.

The Zouaven Museum offers further insights into special aspects of local history. It is dedicated to the Zouave movement and describes itself as the only museum in the world on this subject. Bovendonk is a former seminary complex. In autumn 1895, Petrus J.H. (Pierre) Cuypers was commissioned to design a new monastery; a new neo-Gothic building was subsequently constructed.

Oud Gastel also preserves distinctive traces of history. Laurentius Church has a church tower dating from the 15th century, while the nave was rebuilt in 1906. The Mastboomhuis was built in 1874 on behalf of Petrus Mastboom. Each of these places represents its own facet of Halderberge's history, from ecclesiastical architecture to preserved buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Nature

Arboretum Oudenbosch covers approximately 4 hectares and has an extensive collection of the Aesculus genus. As a former monastery garden, it is part of Oudenbosch's religious cultural heritage. Nature and history therefore lie closely together in this one place, without losing sight of the garden's historical context.

Het Gastels Laag is located southwest of the built-up area of Oudenbosch in the municipality of Halderberge. The area covers 23 hectares of short grassland, blue moor-grassland and an old alder carr. Initially, 180 species of flowers and plants were counted there, including rare species on the Red List. The various habitats give the area a clearly structured landscape.

Getting Around

Halderberge is easily accessible by car, train and bicycle. In the municipality, an extensive node network makes it easy to put together your own routes through forests, along rivers and across atmospheric village squares. This means that, alongside the cultural attractions, routes through different landscape areas are also central to the experience.

Leisure

Waterspeelpark Splesj in Hoeven has a 900 m² spray park and seven water slides. Maple Farm Adventures in Bosschenhoofd offers a climbing park, an outdoor playground and an adventure golf course. Both places complement the historical and landscape attractions with distinctly more active activities.

The Vliegend Museum Seppe is an aviation museum in West Brabant with historic aircraft and cutaway aircraft engines. Children can experience what it is like to be a pilot in a real aircraft. Skydive ENPC offers another connection to aviation: the company offers parachute jumps from an airfield in Bosschenhoofd; both the ascent and the subsequent landing take place there.

For views of the night sky, visit Sterrenwacht Tivoli. It describes itself as the oldest public observatory in the Netherlands. The range of leisure attractions in Halderberge therefore extends from water-based and climbing activities through aviation to astronomy.
