Fort Lunet is particularly striking. It was built between 1837 and 1839 to protect the Donge and the adjacent Breda–Gorinchem road. The fort contains a bomb-proof powder magazine, five gun casemates to its right and four to its left, as well as a bomb-proof building for accommodation and storage. There are also two escape rooms in casemates.

De Onvermoeide is the only surviving windmill in Raamsdonksveer. The second windmill, Zeldenrust, was demolished in 1991. Both names are therefore concrete traces of the local milling history, although only De Onvermoeide has survived.

Active days and events

Families and active travellers can choose from various activities. The Faantentocht in Raamsdonksveer comprises three routes that start at the Heereplein kiosk. Koningspark has a sensory-awareness route. A group running session takes place there at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month.

Traditions and events also shape the town. Carnival in Faantelaand developed from a four-day folk festival into a series of cultural activities involving Geertruidenberg, Raamsdonksveer and Raamsdonk. The series culminates in the Grote Oeptocht parade on Carnival Sunday. Held annually in September in the centre of Raamsdonksveer, Veerse Dag combines music, a market, street theatre and activities for young people. Traditionally, Veerse Dag is free to attend.

Water and nature on holiday

For nature-oriented days, a guided beaver-watching tour starts at Fort Lunet with electric sloops and continues to De Biesbosch National Park. A guided beaver-watching tour starts and ends in Raamsdonksveer. On canoe trips in De Biesbosch National Park, predetermined routes lead through the nature reserve’s smallest waterways.
