Eersel between the market, Kempen history and land art

The historic heart of Eersel is the market square, surrounded by monumental buildings. The area around the market has been a nationally protected village scene since 19 October 1967. The original layout and buildings on the market square and along the Hint have largely been preserved.

The Kempen Museum is housed in an authentic, elongated farmhouse dating from 1890. The museum shows how the lives of the poor smallholding population of the Kempen changed over the course of 100 years.

The market square is also home to the statue “Contente Mens”, which symbolises the character of the people of the Kempen. In the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Chapel in Eersel, a stained-glass window tells the story of the unmarried Hoeks brothers. De Perenboom is part of the “Op Oorlogspad” route and is listed as a monument because of its historical significance, not because of its appearance. For mountain-bike tours, the “Witrijroute Eersel” runs through the Witrijt woodland and around the Cartierheide in the south-east of the municipality of Eersel.

The legend of De Gloeiige, the cursed lord of the land of Eersel, has been turned into a cycling route through the municipality of Eersel. The “De Gloeiige, Landheer van Eersel” route is 29.2 kilometres long, starts at Natuurpoort Terspegelt and follows the official junction network of the national cycle network. The route length of 29.2 kilometres provides a clear geographical framework for a cycling trip of your own. The official junction network offers fixed guidance along the route.

The “Het Groene Lint” art route connects the centres of Eersel and Eindhoven via a 24-kilometre art walking trail designed as a land-art work. When planning, the route should therefore be considered as a separate trail.

The starting point of the “Monumentenroute” is the Visit Eersel information point, Markt 30a, 5521 AN Eersel. Regional products such as Beerze beer and local liqueurs are also available there. Beerze beer and local liqueurs add a distinct regional touch to the information point.
