Holiday apartment in Termunten between the Dollard, nature and history

A holiday apartment in Termunten gives you access to a place where the Ems-Dollard and traces of history lie close together. Termunten is situated on the Ems-Dollard, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea. At the same time, Termunten is a wierde village with a rectangular layout. In the Middle Ages, the village was an important trading centre on the coast and the Munte River. For your holiday planning, this creates a destination where nature observation and local history are placed directly alongside each other.

Cultural history around the Ursus Church

The Batterij Fiemel and the Ursus Church are part of the area’s cultural history. Batterij Fiemel in Termunten is part of the Atlantic Wall. The Ursus Church dates from the 13th century. A footpath along the Termunten–Woldendorp–Fiemel pilgrimage route leads to the Ursus Church in Termunten. The church tower offers wide views across the Ems and Dollard. If you would like to combine historic buildings, a themed trail and expansive views across the landscape, Termunten offers several different ways to do so.

Experience the Dollard landscape and birdlife

The Bezoekerscentrum Dollard, just below Termunten, is a good starting point for exploring the Dollard landscape. It has a viewpoint overlooking the birdlife in the Breebaart polder and is a suitable base for getting to know the Dollard. From the visitor centre, you can walk along the Breebaart polder over the sea dike while viewing the Dollard. The viewpoint and dike path thus combine nature observation with exercise in the open landscape.

Punt van Reide and seals at the sea dike

Punt van Reide is a 53-hectare peninsula located outside the dike and a remnant of the once prosperous Reiderland region. It provides a suitable habitat for seabirds and meadow birds. Punt van Reide is closed to the public; outside the breeding season, guided excursions into the area are possible several times a year. At the sea dike in Termunten near Punt van Reide, the Zeehondenkijkwand is in place from spring until autumn. There, you can observe seals and their pups in their natural surroundings without disturbing them.

Walking and cycling in Termunten

From the visitor centre of the nature conservation organisation in Termunten, you can follow several paths along visible and less visible remnants of the Atlantic Wall. The Dollard walking route in Termunten starts at the visitor centre of Het Groninger Landschap at Dallingeweersterweg 30. Dogs are not allowed on this walk. The Dollardkwelder walking trail allows you to walk a short distance from the dike side into a protected salt-marsh area.

The routes and experiences each focus on different aspects and help you match your accommodation to your own interests.
