Architecture, Art and Special Interiors
The Sint Bonifatiuskerk was designed by Joseph Th.J. Cuypers and P.J.J.M. Cuypers Jr. and built in 1926–1927 in the Expressionist brick style. Kunstcentrum De Ploeg provides a different architectural accent: it is housed in a listed building dating from 1873, designed by Alfred Tepe in the Gothic Revival style.
’t Marnehoes is a former Protestant church dating from the 13th century. Theatre and cabaret performances as well as concerts take place at ’t Marnehoes. It also features an illusionistic trompe-l’œil ceiling painting by Mathijs Röling and Wout Muller. Another detail of the church’s history is the sandstone statue of the Virgin Mary, which was originally installed in a niche on the north side of the tower and dates from the 15th century, originating from Aduard Abbey.
Kunstcentrum De Ploeg presents exhibitions and organises activities in the fields of visual art, music, theatre, literature and landscape. It opened its location in Wehe-Den Hoorn in July 2025. The Kunstcentrum is easily accessible for wheelchair users and people using walking frames. Facilities include a disabled parking space, a lift and an accessible toilet.
Regional Courses and Shared Experiences
Since September 2023, lessons and courses have been offered at the Kultuurhoes. It is also possible to organise activities for the region and from the region there. A cooking course on Groninger cuisine adds a culinary perspective to the local programme, making regional themes directly accessible.
A special opportunity for shared activities is the cycling treasure hunt, organised every year by the village association and Café Hoornstertil in Wehe-Den Hoorn at the end of the summer holidays. The route is approximately 25 kilometres long. Its fixed date in the annual calendar and approximate length help you fit this activity into your own travel plans.
Cycling, Walking and Canoeing
The cycling and walking route around Wehe-Den Hoorn is connected to the Wad- en Wierdenpad and the Pieterpad, and also links up with the Ede Staalpad. The former driveway of the Borgweer estate is also now a cycle path. If you choose a holiday apartment in Wehe-Den Hoorn, these specific cultural and leisure opportunities can help shape how you want to spend your days. Between the church building, Kunstcentrum, Kultuurhoes and the paths around the village, cultural, culinary and active interests can be combined in a single travel plan.
