Nunspeet: Holiday apartment and 230 kilometres of hiking trails

The municipality of Nunspeet has a completed network of hiking trails spanning 230 kilometres. The four village centres Nunspeet, Vierhouten, Hulshorst and Elspeet lie in the heart of the Noord-Veluwe and are surrounded by forests, water, heathland and drifting sands.

Nature

The Nunspeet forestry area combines historic drifting sands, heathland and forests near Nunspeet and Vierhouten. Most of the Nunspeet forestry area is accessible all year round. The wider natural area also includes the Gelderland section of the Veluwerandmeren Natura 2000 area, which includes Nunspeet.

The IVN Bee Garden is located in a forest in the middle of Nunspeet at Zandenboslaan 1, along Eperweg. The garden can be visited daily from sunrise to sunset. For larger groups, a beekeeper can give an explanatory bee presentation by appointment, and guided tours with an expert are also available by appointment.

The Nunspeet Visitor Centre has an exhibition about the nature of the Veluwe. Nunspeet railway station is within walking distance of the Nunspeet Visitor Centre; from there, you can reach the forest almost immediately.

Getting there

Bus routes 301, 111 and 112 stop near the centre of Nunspeet. From the railway station, you can reach the centre on foot in a few minutes via Stationslaan.

Hiking and cycling

The local network of trails offers hiking routes through forests, heathland, areas by the water and village centres. The Ronde Huis hiking route offers a four-kilometre variant starting at Zwarte Veldje, where parking is available. The Ronde Huis hike leads through deciduous and coniferous forests and partly along narrow paths in the Zandenbos. The Heetjesroute leads across heathland and through the forest, along drifting sands and the banks of the Leuvenumse Beek.

The Uit de Kunst cycling route is 45 kilometres long and has ten information boards marking places that were important to former painters. In the municipality of Nunspeet, visitors can explore the area around Nunspeet, Elspeet, Vierhouten and Hulshorst by bicycle, e-bike, road bike or mountain bike.

Culture and history

The Noord-Veluws Art Museum presents the history of Nunspeet as an artists’ colony from 1880 to 1950. The museum has a permanent collection of artists who attracted national and international attention between 1890 and 1950. The Dorpswandeling Nunspeet passes wall poems by famous poets, various works of art, special buildings and former homes and workplaces of artists.

The Kunstsnoer presents large display cases with art at five locations in the centre of Nunspeet. The display cases are rearranged approximately every three months. A walk along the Kunstsnoer connects the Transferium, Stationsplein, Stationslaan and Marktplein, passing public art along the way.

At the Verscholen Dorp, visitors can view three reconstructed huts. The former Second World War hiding camp Verscholen Dorp in Vierhouten is a historic monument. At least thirteen wooden artworks can be seen in and around Vierhouten, and they can be visited on an exploration of the village. The collection includes a life-size wooden deer with real antlers.

Veluvine includes a theatre and an art-house cinema and continuously offers free art exhibitions. Molen De Hoop is an octagonal wooden grain mill built in Elspeet in 1894.
