Deil reveals its distinctive character where the Linge landscape, fruit growing and striking buildings come together: The Blossom Route runs through Deil and over the Appeldijk, follows the Linge and passes through the fruit-growing areas of the Betuwe. For your family, this opens up various ideas for day trips – observing nature, staying active on connected circular routes, finding a photo opportunity by the water or discovering churches, mills and farm complexes.

Landscape along the Linge and Appeldijk

The partly public Waardsche Blok is used by walkers and cyclists. Higher-lying river embankments are located near the walking area, while lower-lying basin areas adjoin it south of Deil. These different landscape forms give walks and bike rides a changing character, without requiring a specific route. There is a panoramic information board on the Appeldijk in Deil. From the Appeldijkje, a meadow on the banks of the Linge offers an opportunity to observe geese and other waterfowl. Those who enjoy pausing will find here, alongside physical activity, a specific reason to observe nature.

Routes for active and photographic days

The Blossom Route connects the circular routes of Tricht, Appeldijk, Mariënwaerdt, Beesd and Deil. It runs through Deil and over the Appeldijk, along the Linge and through the fruit-growing areas of the Betuwe. A large part of its route is closed to cars and motorcycles. For planning your trip, this allows you to choose between extensive activity, individual sections and quiet moments of observation. The Peddelroute also highlights the landscape around De Vlinder Mill in Deil as a worthwhile photo opportunity. This gives holiday apartments and holiday homes in Deil a scenic setting that can be explored in different ways depending on your personal interests.

Flutscheune and churches as architectural discoveries

The Flutscheune belonged to the extensive “Onder de Linde” farm complex. It stands on a mound between the farm and the residential house at Benedeneindseweg 10–12, which formerly belonged to the farm complex. From an architectural-historical perspective, the Flutscheune is considered a well-preserved and complete example; its elevated position on a mound is one of its defining features. Inside are six anchor-beam trusses with wooden pegs.

The church building at Deilsedijk 25 is a five-bay structure with a gabled roof between gable walls, covered with blue improved Dutch tiles. A small hall church dates from 1843. In addition, a church was founded around the 12th century; its tuff-stone tower also dates from that period. These different architectural forms and dates give visitors interested in culture several specific details to look out for during a walk.

Mills, farmsteads and traces of former structures

A mill has been documented at the site of De Vlinder Mill since 1650. De Vlinder Mill is a tall grain mill dating from 1913 on the Appeldijk along the Linge. De Brouwerij is a farmstead probably dating from 1796, with a hipped roof covered with thatch and tiles. At the former Huis Bulkestein, the gate pillars date from 1620; they are decorated with bands of natural stone and masonry anchors. Most of the surrounding moat of Huis Palmestein is still preserved. Kasteel Bulckenstein fell into decline towards the end of the 18th century and was demolished in 1788. At the same time, Kasteel Bulckenstein is part of the Kastelenroute West Betuwe 1: Lingeroute.

Choose a holiday apartment in Deil based on your interests

When choosing your holiday apartment in Deil, you can align your preferred daily rhythm with specific destinations: Families with children of different ages can alternate between activity on the Blossom Route, observing nature by the water, a photo opportunity at the mill and individual architectural discoveries. This allows accommodation to be considered according to your own mix of interests – with room for active days as well as slower stretches along the Linge or at the historic sites.
