History that remains visible in Ederveen
A central place of remembrance is the “Centraal Monument” in Ederveen (municipality of Ede). It commemorates the liberation of the village on 24 April 1945 by the 49th British Infantry Division, also known as the “Polar Bear Division”. The monument was unveiled in 1995 and consists of three grey blocks. It therefore offers a tangible historical connection that can easily be combined with a walk through the village, without making your stay revolve around a single theme.
The Hervormde Kerk at Hoofdweg 85 is also one of the notable historical addresses in Ederveen. It is a PKN Reformed congregation as well as a municipal monument. Kasteel Bruynhorst was built in 1879 on the site of an older castle. Those interested in local history will therefore encounter various forms of remembrance here – from the monument and the church building to the castle site with its long history.
Walking, cycling and nature experiences
Ederveen offers numerous opportunities for walking and has appealing natural surroundings. This makes the village interesting for days when you want to be out and about without a tightly packed schedule. Depending on your preferred pace, you can combine experiences in nature with historical discoveries or focus entirely on outdoor activity.
A special option for active days is the Smaakfietsroute: van kaas tot sap. The route passes through Ederveen and through the stream landscape above Ederveen. You can cycle it independently. The name already points to the culinary character of the route, while the landscape provides the setting for a bike tour. A holiday apartment in Ederveen can therefore serve as a base for a variety of day-trip ideas, without limiting you to exclusively cultural or exclusively scenic activities.
Pumpkins and gourds from August to November
From August to November, the De Jong family farm becomes the Pompoenenboerderij Ederveen every year. A wide variety of pumpkins and gourds are professionally grown there. Visitors can choose their own pumpkins and gourds. This seasonal experience adds a distinctive touch to the village in late summer and autumn and complements the opportunities for walking, cycling and discovering the region’s history.
Choose a holiday apartment in Ederveen to suit your travel plans
When choosing a holiday apartment in Ederveen, you can base your decision on the experiences you want to shape your stay. If walks and nature are the focus, the appealing landscape and numerous walking opportunities take centre stage. For an active itinerary, the Smaakfietsroute and the stream landscape above Ederveen offer specific themes to explore. Those interested in culture can include the Centraal Monument, the Hervormde Kerk and Kasteel Bruynhorst in their plans. During pumpkin season, the Pompoenenboerderij Ederveen provides another reason to make your daily itinerary regional and varied.
