Koudum is centrally located in Nationaal Landschap Zuidwest Friesland, in the immediate vicinity of lakes and forests. When choosing a holiday apartment in Koudum, you can therefore consider whether you would mainly like to devote your holiday days to the water, the routes or the region’s history. This leaves room for alternating between nature, activity and culture.

Landscape between lakes and forests

Koudum is situated on Lake De Fluessen and in the Friese Meren area, whose lakes are interconnected. On the Friese Meren near Koudum, you can go boating, sailing, stand-up paddling and flyboarding. This allows you to combine peaceful landscape impressions with active experiences on the water. The water-based activities can therefore be considered a separate focus alongside the routes on land.

Martinikerk and De Vlijt

The Martinikerk in Koudum was built in 1857. It contains the complete furnishings of the former church from the 17th century, which was demolished. The one-manual organ was built in 1858 by L. van Dam en Zonen using pipework from the replaced Bader organ.

De Vlijt is a gallery-type Spinnekop grain mill. It was moved to Koudum in 1986 and converted into this grain mill. Together with the Martinikerk, De Vlijt adds another historically focused perspective to an exploration of the village.

Waterways, cycling and walking routes

The 33.7-kilometre boating route “Rondje Fluezen-Luts” runs across the Sleattemer Mar and De Fluezen and through the forest along the Luts. Boats can moor in Koudum along this boating route. The “Wind en zuivel” cycling route continues from Koudum towards Balk, along Lake De Fluezen and back to Woudsend.

Two routes lead through and around Koudum on foot. The Koloniale wandeling Koudum is a 9-kilometre walking route that starts and ends at the Martinikerk in the centre of Koudum. Poelspaed is a walking route around Koudum that runs along the Morra and the Jan Broerskanaal. This allows you to plan your days more around the Martinikerk or the waterways.

Golf and information for your planning

Another shared active day is possible at Pitch & Putt Golf Koudum. There, you can play 9 or 18 holes; footgolf is also available. The facility is suitable for adults and children aged 8 and over. The choice between 9 and 18 holes allows for golf days of varying lengths.

The VVV information centre in Koudum, located next to Muizelaar bookshop, provides information about walking, cycling, boating and regional events. When selecting a holiday apartment in Koudum, you can incorporate these topics into your own planning and create different daily schedules combining water activities, routes, culture, events and golf.
