Bant is an interesting base for anyone who wants to spend their holiday between forests, cycling routes and regional history. Kuinderbos is the largest and oldest forest in the Noordoostpolder. Near Bant, the Polder en Dijkenroute begins at a tourist transfer point in Kuinderbos. It leads via Rutten to the dike and then through Friesland. As a circular route, it returns to its starting point at the end.

Another option is the recreational cycling route “Polderproeven De Veenkuil”. It starts and ends at the De Veenkuil nature campsite in Kuinderbos near Bant.

At Bikepark Bant, you can choose between a blue and a red route. The blue route is easy to follow and relatively straightforward. The red route, on the other hand, requires technical skills. The bike park includes, among other features, a wall ride, rock gardens, a pump track section and wooden North Shore elements. Access to Bikepark Bant is free.

The Deelfietshub Bant provides additional flexibility: there, you can rent an electric bicycle from Deelfiets Nederland and return it at another bicycle hub, including outside the Noordoostpolder. This allows you to take your preferred cycling days and the different types of routes into account when planning your holiday apartment from the outset, without committing yourself to just one form of cycling.

History between village, forest and water management

The region’s history is also present at several specific locations. The Bantsiliek is now used as a multifunctional centre in the village. An aqueduct stands on the Schoterweg; it is a rare component of the water supply system in the Noordoostpolder. Kuinderbos is also home to a replica of a hideout hut. It is a symbol of the liberation of Kuinre and the Noordoostpolder by Canadian troops on 16 and 17 April 1945.

In the Middle Ages, before the Noordoostpolder was drained, the Old Harbour of Kuinre was a flourishing commercial port. In the Schoterveld nature reserve, the preserved frames of the “Queen Anne” commemorate a shipwreck dating back around 300 years. The frames were erected as a monument on the edge of the nature reserve and now trace the contours in the landscape of a ship that was exceptionally large for the Zuiderzee.
