Holiday apartment in Vledder among museums and landscapes
Vledder combines culture, history and landscapes. The village is home to the Museum Valse Kunst and the Miramar Zeemuseum; north of Vledder lies the Vledderhof estate, with avenues, woodland, grassland, ponds and small moorland lakes. You can plan a holiday that combines visits to the village with walks and excursions into the surrounding landscape.
Art and museum experiences
The Museum Valse Kunst is housed in the former town hall on the Brink in Vledder. During a visit, you will learn about the techniques, materials and tricks used by art forgers. The contemporary glass art collection focuses mainly on European glass art after 1945, particularly works from the Netherlands, France, Italy, Poland and the Scandinavian countries.
The Miramar Zeemuseum has been located in Vledder since 1965. For children, it offers a treasure hunt through the museum, shell crafts, a children’s corner and a whale trail in the museum garden. This allows you to combine cultural impressions with different ways of exploring when members of your travel group have different interests.
Village greens, history and paths
The Grote Brink is one of the two oak-covered village greens in Vledder. Fairs used to be held on the Vreedebrink, now called Grote Brink, where horses, cows and sheep were traded. The last fair in Vledder took place in 1922. The Grote Brink is also home to a 17-ton glacial erratic dating from 1903, which was erected there in 1945 as a war memorial for the victims of the Second World War.
The local walking routes in Vledder start in the village centre, connect the landscape around the village with local culture, and run along old, restored footpaths. In the Koelingsveld between Vledder and Doldersum lies one of the largest urnfields in north-western Europe, with burial mounds dating from the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age. The striking sculpture “Boodschapper met Boerstokkie” by Bert Kiewiet has stood at the Wierplas since 1993. It depicts an old village tradition in which a Boerstok bearing a message was passed on by the Boermarke like a relay baton.
Planning Vledder as a holiday destination
Qbuzz bus route 20 serves the Brink stop in Vledder and runs from Steenwijk via Dieverbrug to Assen. For cycling trips, the “Museum route” passes through Vledder and connects the Miramar Zeemuseum and the Museum Valse Kunst there with the OERmuseum in Diever and Museum De Proefkolonie in Frederiksoord. When choosing your holiday apartment or holiday home, you can therefore consider whether to focus on local culture and walking routes or combine several museums and landscape experiences. A holiday apartment in Vledder provides the right setting for planning your days according to your personal preferences, without every activity having to follow the same rhythm.
