Holiday apartment in Uffelte: Discover nature, trails and culture

Uffelte combines village character with varied landscapes, signposted trails and visible traces of regional history. Uffelte is an Esdorp with characteristic Saxon farmhouses. This gives you various starting points for planning your holiday: you can combine nature, exercise and culture without limiting yourself to just one way of exploring the area.

Nature and trails in the Uffelter Binnenveld

The Uffelter Binnenveld lies between the villages of Havelte and Uffelte. Heathland, flower-rich nutrient-poor grasslands and woodland define the landscape and give walks and hikes a range of different impressions. The Uffelter Binnenveld has a hiking route of more than 6 kilometres. If you prefer a longer distance, you can make this trail a focus of your day’s plans.

In addition, the signposted “Dorpsommetje Oosterzand” hiking trail runs for 5.6 kilometres through Het Oosterzand. The different trail lengths help you adapt your plans to your preferred timeframe, without requiring a particular pace or a specific level of fitness on the day. The “Volg het turfvaartje” experience trail was created in 2010 and adds another distinctive feature to the trails around Uffelte.

Uffelte also has well-signposted hiking trails and mountain bike routes. This allows you to choose between a more leisurely walk and a more active bike ride. One important restriction concerns the hiking route in the Uffelter Binnenveld: because of the sheep, dogs are not allowed on it. If you are travelling with a dog, you should therefore not include this particular trail in your plans.

History and culture in the village

The Uffelter Binnenveld preserves visible traces of the Second World War in many places. These include bunker remains and trenches. These relics stand unexpectedly within the landscape and make it clear that a walk through the area offers not only experiences of nature, but also opportunities for historical observation.

Among Uffelte’s attractions is a lock complex on the Drentsche Hoofdvaart, complete with a lock keeper’s house. Uffelte is also home to the statue “De Brugwachter” by Jan Luuks. Together with the Saxon farmhouses, these features create a villagescape in which architectural heritage, hydraulic engineering and art stand side by side within a compact thematic setting.

At the heart of Uffelte, the Uffelter Church has been a place of reflection, celebration and gathering since 1911. The church offers around 80 seats and is suitable for concerts, singing or dance performances, as well as rehearsals. For your travel plans, this cultural highlight complements the trails through the Binnenveld and the historic sites along the Drentsche Hoofdvaart.

Uffelte as a base for planning your holiday

If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Uffelte, you can use your preferred mix of landscape, activity and culture as a guide when choosing your base. The Uffelter Binnenveld is ideal for days of hiking and observing nature, while the trails through Het Oosterzand, the mountain bike routes and the cultural sites appeal to other interests. This leaves room for different ideas each day without reducing Uffelte to a single holiday theme.
