Donje Stravče is described as a gentle mountain village with numerous meadows and cultivated fields. From the settlement, a road climbs to a pass and a viewpoint on the edge of the Jelova-glava Canyon. Getting There and Routes

Donje Stravče can be reached from Podgorica via Kuči in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. A route follows a rural dirt road from Donje Stravče towards Brskut via Milačići and Dubaja.

Hikes

A hiking route from Donje Stravče reaches Orline via Krušev do. The excursion to Orline begins at the Lazović houses in Donje Stravče at an elevation of 1,149 metres and descends to Krušev do at 1,007 metres. The route is 14 kilometres long and unmarked, although old village paths have remained visible. Near the summit of Orline, a rocky section is difficult because of sloping rocks and rock fissures caused by erosion after a fire. The excursion passes the Priboj viewpoint near Milačići; from there, hikers look into the Mala Rijeka gorge before the route continues to Donje Stravče.

A circular hike that includes Donje Stravče is described as an easy route of approximately 12.5 kilometres, with an elevation gain of around 300 metres and a duration of about six hours. A shorter variant avoids Jelova glava.

Surroundings and Culture

Nearby is Rikavačko jezero in Gornje Stravče, in the area where Žijovo and Prokletije meet. Rikavačko jezero is connected by a gravel road from Korita to the Veruša Valley. Below Žijovo, at an elevation of 1,443 metres, lies Lake Bukumirsko, a glacial lake surrounded by grassy, hilly terrain.

In the immediate vicinity, a folk gathering takes place every year at the Orthodox Church of Saint Elias on Ilindan, 2 August. The CT-1 Transversal runs near Donje Stravče from Veruša via Žijevo, Komovi, Bjelasica and Sinjajevina to Crno jezero; it is planned as an eight-day hike.

In the Kastrat katun, local hosts are available in summer, usually from June to September. The huts of Kastrat are described as empty in winter, but they may possibly offer shelter to people on their way to the mountain peaks during storms.
