Culture

The Monastery of the Holy Trinity has the status of a cultural heritage site of national importance. It was built in 1537; the church acquired its present appearance in 1876. The monastery houses the reliquary and hand relic of Saint Sava.

The Zavičajni muzej Pljevlja is a complex museum founded in 1952, with nearly 5,000 objects in archaeological, ethnological, historical and cultural-historical departments. Its collections showcase human life in the Pljevlja area from the Palaeolithic, dating back more than 40,000 years, through subsequent eras; thematic exhibitions are occasionally held.

The Husein Pasha Mosque was built in 1569 according to the plans of the architect Hajrudin and has a 42-metre-high minaret. It is located in the city centre. Milet Bašta is one of the oldest public green spaces in the Balkans, lies in the heart of Pljevlja and is connected to Vodice Park. A restaurant in Milet Bašta serves national cuisine.

Nature

Pljevlja is partly located in Durmitor National Park. Vodice Park covers 12 hectares and is situated on the former grounds of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity. It includes two artificial lakes and a fishpond, as well as fitness trails, cycle paths and walking paths.

The summit of Dernjačište on Velika Ljubišnja offers views of the surrounding mountains and gorges. Ljubišnja is fully marked for hiking and mountain biking. Winter activities there include snowshoeing and tobogganing.

At the Meandri Ćehotine, there are viewpoints overlooking the winding river courses.

Geographical Location

Pljevlja can be reached by car or bus from Montenegro’s larger cities and the surrounding region. Nearby, the Đurđevića-Tara Bridge is a tourist attraction.
