Location and Coast
Sveti Stefan was built on a rock near the coast and was later connected to the mainland when the settlement became a hotel. The hotel town of Sveti Stefan is built on a sandbank.
East Beach and West Beach lie on either side of the access road to Sveti Stefan. The beaches of Sveti Stefan are sandy and feature pink and reddish rocks. Crvena Glavica, with seven smaller beaches, is located in the immediate vicinity. Miločer Beach, also known as King's Beach, is situated in front of Hotel Miločer and surrounded by a park with exotic trees.

Culture
The island of Sveti Stefan is characterised by paved streets, courtyards and hand-restored stone buildings. At the entrance to Sveti Stefan, the small Church of the Transfiguration preserves traces of fresco painting. The larger church on Sveti Stefan was built in 1885 and dedicated to St Alexander Nevsky in 1939.
Sveti Stefan takes its name from the Church of St Stephen the Protomartyr, which still stands on Sveti Stefan.
History
Sveti Stefan was once the centre of the independent principality of Paštrovska. The tribal court of the Paštrovski, Bakanada, met in Sveti Stefan for 400 years until 1929. In 1442, Sveti Stefan was described as a military fortification.
Sveti Stefan served the Paštrovići as a centre of trade and transport. During the period of the Venetian Republic and in trade with Venice, the town held strategic and commercial importance.
