Bettel can be explored in a variety of ways: on foot along the Our, by bicycle on the PC 22 or on a stroll through the well-preserved village centre. There are also reminders of the former narrow-gauge railway “Benni”, a rebuilt railway station building and a viewing pavilion on the Marxberg. Hiking along the Our and enjoying the views

After leaving Bettel, the Bettel hiking trail follows the Our for several hundred metres. The route therefore initially passes through a landscape shaped by the river. The trail also takes you to the “white cross”, a wayside cross, and shortly before returning to Bettel it passes the rebuilt old railway station building.

A viewing pavilion stands on the ascent to the Marxberg. In clear weather, the view from there extends several dozen kilometres. This section provides a distinctive landscape highlight and serves as a special point of orientation for anyone who wants to plan a hike not only according to the route but also according to the impressions it offers. For practical preparation, it is also useful to know that there is a car park directly at the starting point of the TA 2 hiking trail. The TA 2 is signposted in both directions with white and blue markings and the designation “TA 2”.

Cycling along a historic route

The Ardennes cycling route PC 22 starts in Bettel at Rue du Cimetière. Anyone choosing a cycling tour as the main focus of their trip will therefore find a clearly designated starting point. Halfway between Bettel and Fouhren, the PC 22 passes a park with a playground created by the municipality. It is an inviting place to take a break and offers families a convenient stopover to include in their daily planning.

The history of cycling and transport is also part of the village landscape. The former narrow-gauge railway “Benni” ran between Diekirch and Vianden through Bettel’s railway station area. It ceased operations in 1948; part of its route is now used as a cycle path. In this way, the route combines a present-day activity with a visible chapter of regional transport history, without requiring you to artificially separate the different themes.

Village centre, farmhouses and Bëttler Gare

Bettel’s well-preserved village centre includes impressive farmhouses, some of which date from the 18th and 19th centuries. A walk through the village can therefore be a quieter addition to days spent hiking and cycling. The Bëttler Gare is particularly interesting: the building was rebuilt between 2003 and 2005 by the Fouhren Tourist Association and was intended to be used as a public and cultural meeting place. Shortly before returning to Bettel, you can view the old railway station building and reconnect with the historical significance of the former railway line.
