Pagėgiai: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Pagėgiai presents its history in several clearly distinguishable layers: its preserved architectural heritage includes the old village of Pagėgiai, a German town from the late 19th to the early 20th century, and a centre of the Republic of Lithuania that developed from 1923 to 1939. Townscape and History

Numerous houses of architectural and historical value have been preserved in Pagėgiai to this day. Vydūno Street is home to several preserved wooden buildings of traditional folk architecture, the Holy Cross Church of Pagėgiai, the old bell tower and the building of the Kristijonas Donelaitis Gymnasium of Pagėgiai.

A sculpture created by Steponas Juška (1953–2015) was unveiled in Pagėgiai’s town park on 5 July 2005. It symbolises the union of Lithuania Minor and Lithuania Major and depicts a mother embracing a small child in pink granite.

Pagėgiai Railway Station is located at 7 Geležinkelio gatvė in Pagėgiai.

Cultural Sites

The Pagėgių Vydūno Public Library has an exhibition room dedicated to Vydūnas’ life and work. The courtyard contains the “Atminties skveras”, with small-scale sculptures, and a commemorative bench bearing the name Vydūnas.

The Pagėgių Cultural Centre offers visitors the opportunity to visit the only goose museum in Europe. Visitors can also take part in events certified with the national heritage mark there.

Traditions

The Christmas Goose Market traditionally takes place on the second Saturday in December in Pagėgiai’s market square. It brings to life and highlights the traditions of the ethnic and cultural heritage of Lithuania Minor from the interwar period. At the Christmas Goose Market, visitors can sample culinary heritage.
