Nature
The part of the “Rėkyvos pelkė” area outside the Rėkyvos Botanical-Zoological Reserve also extends across the territory of Verduliukai. The part that includes Verduliukai contains four habitat types of Community interest: degraded raised bogs (7120; 49.87 ha), transition mires and quaking bogs (7140; 4.87 ha), broad-leaved woodland on bogs (9080; 5.87 ha), and bog woodland (91D0; 33.52 ha).
The protected pond bat (Myotis dasycneme; 7.47 ha) and large white-faced darter (Leucorrhinia pectoralis; 1,198.44 ha) occur in this part; both are listed in Annex II to Directive 92/43/EEC of 21 May 1992.
The Vijolė River rises in the area of Lake Rėkyvos, where the Verduliukų aukštapelkė raised bog is located. This raised bog is designated as the source area of the Vijolė River. From Verduliukai, the Vijolė flows north towards Tilžės gatvė and joins the Kulpė near Sutkūnai.
Culture and History
In the surroundings of Verduliukai, the history of the Rėkyvos manor estate began in 1605. Visitors can see authentic architectural details there and learn about the Karpiai family and the history of the area.
The Rėkyvos manor estate includes a reconstructed former smithy chapel dating from 1935. The estate also includes outbuildings and a partially preserved park with old avenues.
The Rėkyvos Cultural Centre is located on the grounds of the former Rėkyvos manor estate; its main hall is housed in a former farm building of the manor.
Getting Around
The cycling excursion “Pietinio kronikos prieš 100 metų” includes Verduliukai as one of the historic villages south of Šiauliai. The route follows roads and paths and includes both paved and gravel sections.
Kitesurfing takes place on Lake Rėkyvos, and two yacht clubs operate on its shore.
Surroundings
In the surroundings of Verduliukai, Lake Rėkyvos is the tenth-largest lake in Lithuania and features a wooden bridge with a viewing platform. The lake also has a sandy beach.
The forests and marshes around Lake Rėkyvos attract numerous berry and mushroom pickers.
