Discover Kupiškis: Museum, Musical Fountain and Street Art
Accommodation in Kupiškis
The Kupiškis Museum is housed in a former parish school building dating from 1823. On Laurynas-Gucevičius Square, a musical fountain combines water, light and music, while street art adds further accents. The themes range from everyday life on farms and wedding traditions to art in public spaces.

Museum, library and local history
The permanent exhibitions at the Kupiškis Museum showcase farm households from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as wedding traditions from Kupiškis. Everyday life and customs thus offer different ways to explore local history. In the wider destination of Kupiškio rajono savivaldybė, the museum also preserves a collection of traditional Lithuanian clothing and accessories from the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century. It was assembled by Stefanija, Mikalina and Elvyra Glemžaitė. The collection also includes aurochs horns almost 4,000 years old, considered the largest found in Lithuania.
Since 1950, the Kupiškis public library has been housed in a former Jewish synagogue. It preserves materials on local history, manuscripts and photographs. If you plan to visit the library, check the current service details beforehand.
Musical fountain and art in public spaces
During the musical fountain shows on Laurynas-Gucevičius Square, jets of water rise up to eight metres high. Water, light and music give the square a different character from the museum’s historical collections. Do not base your plans on an assumed show time.
Kupiškis street art includes “Kupiškėnai wedding” and “Rainbow horse” by Henrikas Orakauskas. In the wider destination of Kupiškio rajono savivaldybė, the sculptor’s open-air museum trail in Kupiškis also features more than two dozen of his sculptures. Information boards with QR codes stand beside the most visited works. After scanning, special programs on a mobile device provide a brief introduction to the artwork in the artist’s voice. The trail presentation and QR and audio offerings may change; check their availability in advance if you want to use them specifically.
Sports and special visiting conditions
The permanent exhibition on Ritinis at the Kupiškis District Sports and Physical Culture Centre displays awards and other exhibits. It is open on weekdays; visits at weekends are possible by prior arrangement. Confirm that a visit is possible in advance. A seasonal offering invites you to play Ripka in summer together with Vidmantas Liubomirskas, president of the Kupiškis Ritinis Sports Club and an educator. Ask the venue whether it is currently available.
At the Stone Sculpture Park of Vytautas Jasinskas, the owner invites visitors to view the sculptures in his yard. Arrange access before your visit.
Water landscape in the wider destination
In the wider destination of Kupiškio rajono savivaldybė, the Kupiškis-Marios Reservoir was created in 1984 by damming the Lėvuo River. It covers 828 hectares and is about 25 kilometres long. Sports events are held every year at Kupiškis-Marios, including the Kupiškis-Marios Regatta, international powerboat racing, Lithuanian and international triathlon competitions, and the Lithuanian Beach Soccer Championship. Ice-fishing competitions and summer festivals are also held there. Check the dates if you want to include a specific event in your plans.
When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide which themes you want to shape your stay: the museum, library and art in Kupiškis, or the water landscape and events in the wider destination of Kupiškio rajono savivaldybė. This lets you plan your trip around the experiences that interest you most and check the visiting conditions for specific offerings.
