The ethnographic Sodyba Agluonėnų is an authentic homestead dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Visitors can learn about historical everyday life, traditional crafts, the architecture of the Lietuvininkai in Lithuania Minor and regional customs. At the same time, it is one of the few surviving examples of the wooden architecture of Lithuania Minor and preserves an authentic ensemble of buildings, courtyards, greenery and decorative elements.

The J. Genys Windmill Exhibition in Agluonėnai invites children, school students and adults to take part in educational activities. These activities provide an interactive introduction to the history of windmills, the traditional culture of grain milling and the heritage of Lithuania Minor.

The “Kalbos kelias” language trail through the surroundings of Agluonėnai and Dovilai comprises 25 objects and begins in Agluonėnų Park at the monument to the Lietuvininkai and at the “Time Snail”, with memorial signs commemorating people and events. It is described as an easy route 38 km long, taking approximately three hours, and includes sections on asphalt, gravel roads and forest paths.

In the Lietuvininkai Oak Grove in Agluonėnai stands a monument created by J. Čepas and artists from the Klaipėda region in memory of the inhabitants of Lithuania Minor, the Lietuvininkai. It consists of an arch and an oak-leaf-shaped grave sculpture. During a plein-air event held in the same year, further Krikštai were created in memory of R. Kant, K. Donelaitis, M. Mažvydas, L. Rėza, Vydūnas and I. Simonaitytė.

History and Park

Agluonėnai, a former typical village of Lithuania Minor on the banks of the Agluona Stream, was first mentioned in 1540. Agluonėnų Park was established as a village recreation area after a dam was built on the Agluona River in 1988.

Traditional Joninės celebrations take place in the park. On national and other holidays, a fire altar is lit there, and Lithuanian and Lithuanian Minor folk songs are performed by the “Agluona” folklore ensemble. At its entrances there is also a fish pass for salmon, built in 1988 and described as “the first and longest in the country”.

Nature

The Grambaviškių Kalnas hill is located in the surroundings of Agluonėnai. In the wider regional area are the island of Sala Kiaulės Nugara, the historic Memel Lutheran Church, the island of Zingelinės Sala and the Eumo Kalnai hill group.
