Rideļi: Mill, Lake and Nature Experiences

Rideļi combines a diverse milling history with water activities, guided trails and regional hospitality. At the centre are the Rideļu dzirnavas and Rideļu Mill Lake in the Kalnupe Valley. History surrounding the Rideļu dzirnavas

The Rideļu dzirnavas were built in 1863. After the land reform of 1920, they came into the possession of the Kambala family. In 2002, the Rideļu dzirnavas were included in the European Heritage of Industrial Culture. The Rideļi Manor is also part of the area's history: it is one of four manor estates that have survived to this day in the Sēme parish.

A mill museum is housed across the three floors of the Rideļu dzirnavas. The museum includes the informative short film “No grauda līdz maizei”. When the mill museum opened, an interactive programme was also created with workshops led by the miller for children, schoolchildren and families. For cycling travellers, the route “Over the hills and to the sea” can be extended from Zentene through Rideļi, past the Rideļu dzirnavas, towards Engure and the sea. The extension includes 7 km of gravel road and 15 km of asphalt road in each direction. Take the respective surface and route length into account when planning your cycling tour.

Local experiences between café and sauna

At the Rideļu dzirnavas, Café COPE offers a pancake experience: guests fill their own pancakes with sweet or savoury ingredients. The guesthouse café “Pieturvieta – Rideļu Lodes” welcomes guests during House Café Days with a late breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. The property includes a nearly two-hundred-year-old residential building with a preserved mantel chimney.

Another experience is the Re-Starta zona rural sauna, which offers various sauna rituals conducted by one or more sauna masters. After the sauna ritual, there is an opportunity to stay overnight at a rural farmstead. This means that a stay in Rideļi can also be combined with regional hospitality and a deliberately slower daily rhythm.
