Discover Allaži: Nature, Trails and Culture

Allaži combines distinctive natural phenomena with tangible traces of regional history. The Mežmuižas Springs Nature Reserve covers 27 hectares, while Linezers is a periodically disappearing lake that temporarily drains underground. For your travel planning, this means you can devote your stay entirely to observing nature or combine landscapes and culture as different day-trip destinations.

Springs, lake and unusual natural experiences

The Kaļķugravas Springs are among the striking natural features. Their number varies between 3 and 14 depending on the amount of precipitation. Boardwalks and stairs have been built at the springs for visitors. This gives the site its own way of experiencing it, in which not only the destination but also the changing appearance of the spring landscape takes centre stage. Those interested in rare natural details can also find the Černauski Great Oak. It has a circumference of 6.9 metres; protected shining ants live in its hollow.

Trails for different travel days

Two hiking trails were created in Allaži's nature trail network in 2001. One trail leads from Linezers to Pandu Moor, thereby connecting two different landscapes within a single excursion. In addition, a route of approximately 50 km for motoring tourism is part of Allaži's nature trails. You can therefore organise your days in different ways: one day with a hike, and another with a longer drive through the surrounding area. Church, cult stone and the history of Allaži

Cultural history is also present in Allaži. Allažu Evangelical Lutheran Church is an architectural monument of national significance. It was built in 1926 according to a design by the architect Pauls Kundziņš. The Černauski Cult Stone, also known as Ezernieku Stone, is 1.7 metres high and has a circumference of 16.7 metres. Historical sources already mention it in 1739 as the “Great Stone”; farmers brought offerings to it for several centuries.

The “Allaž laipni Allažos” exhibition expands on this historical insight. It provides information about the fate of the Allaži estate, the former distillery, the estate owners and the caraway liqueur “Allažu ķimelis”. As a mobile exhibition, it is intended for individual and group visits. Additional visiting times can be arranged by prior registration. This makes it possible to complement a day in nature with a cultural focus without conflating the site's different themes.
