Bertesina combines a clearly defined town centre with a rural setting and remarkable buildings. Villa Gazzotti is located in the centre. Andrea Palladio designed it between 1542 and 1543; it dates from 1542 and is considered one of Palladio’s early works. Since 1994, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site together with Vicenza’s other Palladian buildings.

The Church of San Cristoforo is located in Bertesina and was first mentioned in 1186 in a document issued by Pope Urban II. This early mention gives the church a historical significance that adds another cultural highlight to the townscape alongside the Palladian villa. The year 1186 is clearly earlier than the period in which Villa Gazzotti was built.

Parks, gardens and rural character

Extensive agricultural areas stretch around the centre of Bertesina. Scattered rural settlements lie among them, some of which are of historic interest. Bertesina is therefore defined not only by individual buildings, but also by a clearly rural surrounding area.

Another notable place is Villa Ghislanzoni Curti, an 18th-century villa in Bertesina. It houses an elegant Italian garden and has a historic park covering more than three hectares. The grounds are complemented by a greenhouse complex dating from the early 20th century. The two villas represent different periods of construction: Villa Gazzotti dates from 1542, while Villa Ghislanzoni Curti dates from the 18th century. Architecture, garden design and generous open space come together here. The estate combines historic architecture with gardens and parkland, as well as a later greenhouse complex.

The park in Bertesina is named Maria Teresa Fortuna Canivet and is located opposite the parish church. Its green arena has three rows of tiered seating and wooden seats. This gives the park a clearly designed place for a break and for consciously experiencing its distinctive layout. Its position opposite the parish church provides the park with a fixed reference point in the town centre.

The same park also has a playground with a bike park, as well as a quiet area with a garden of aromatic plants. Parking is available on the southern side of the park and along Via San Cristoforo. This location can be taken into account when planning a visit to the park in Bertesina.

The combination of villa, church, gardens, park and rural surroundings appeals to different travel interests. Cultural buildings and designed open spaces stand alongside agricultural outer areas.
